I think there is some kind of problem with my HDD. A problem caused by this is the corruption of the dark basic pro editor.exe and i cannot run it. Is there a different version i could use. If it helps i am running windows xp with ample amount of ram. Is this a common problem?

I had a similar problem. The reason was that my video card supported 16 and 32 bit, and my monitor supported 16 and 24. So, the editor could not work with 24 or 32. Changing to 16 solved the problem. Since that was too much hassle (most of my programs are set for 32), I switched the monitor. There are so many elements that have to interact for your computer to work! I suggest you post the specifications of your sound and video cards, your monitor, your hard drive, your ram (including type), etc. The solution may be in making your settings compatible with all your hardware elements. Check also the acceleration and the rest of your hardware settings in the Device Manager.
I also thought I had a corrupt file. But it was a compatibility issue between the monitor and the hard drive. See, the first line DB was reading was the monitor resolution. And since it was incompatible with the settings, DB couldn't compile.

Hmmm, that does sound like a good plan. If that is in fact the deal, try setting your display mode in DBP, but it seems as if he cant even get pro running at all!

Hey guys help Mnemonix out here! If he cant fix his computer, how will ED go on without the co-leader!!! Argh!

Help!

No, thats not the problem. I changed to 24 bit but to no avail. Note that i have had Dbpro running perfectly on this machine before
It seems to be the Editor, exe being corrupted by something each time i install it

When you install programs, sometimes files are uncompressed and temporarily stored in the "C:\Windows\Temp directory". Are you making sure this is completely empty each time you try a fresh install as well as the DB directory on your HD itself?
I'm just taking a wild stab in the dark here, but maybe that corrupt .exe is still floating around and is what gets installed instead of a fresh file each time you try????
Have you updated any drivers since you last had it working properly - maybe you need to downgrade?

Well, I spoke too soon. As soon as I replied to you, this computer stopped compiling Dark Basic Pro. I am getting "Error 1512 - Display is not supported by available hardware at line 0"
That is what I got before. And it got fixed after I changed my settings. This time I have tried fixing the settings and nothing. I am going to try restores to prior points. Lets see.

It worked. I had to backtrack about one week to a point prior to a major windows update, including upgrade to DirectX 9. Then, I have been upgrading one program at a time, and it is still OK. Hopefully it will work too for Mnemonix
