So I am using maya and am trying to export a model when I realize that there are barely any export formats available? Is there some sort of third party program that I would need to download?

Maybe the people on autodesk forums will know. There aren't a lot of people here that can spend $8000 on 3d software.

What version of Maya are you using, what file type are you trying to export? I use 8.5 and for .x exports, I use

http://www.c-unit.com/downloads/cvxporter/

Works with an anything over 7.0 with minimal problems. Just doesnt support multiple UV's, but thats not really a huge issue.

Yes cvxporter works, takes some tweaking but works. So do converters like polytrends. But what about animations? I have not heard from one person on here but raven that got an animation to work. If any one does please post a walk-thru.

I actually got a pretty good solution I export it as a file format and import in to blender and from there export it to whatever fileformat I want, it isn't to hard =)

Well I do not know if it works for animations as I have not tried it so far but it should work, and the fileformat you can find out by just seeing what formats both blender and maya holds together(I think the one I used was like dxf or something but I am not sure)
