I fell kinda dumb asking this but...

I was wondering how you make a 3d movie. I have gotten fairly good at modeling and animating and I wan't to try making an animation movie. I have milkshape and blender, but I dont know much about blender.

Is there a program that would let me import models place them and set animation cues and speeds and then complile it into a viewable video? I think blender may be able to do something like this but I have no idea how.

I know some people here have made videos of animations. If anyone could tell me how to make them I would be very grateful.

blender's animation tools are pretty good. I don't know much about animation yet, look on their blenderwiki thing for info. You can set keyframes for each object in an animation, then render the animation (usually takes quite a while depending on the level of detail)

Modelled and rendered in Blender. Free software ftw.

The blender wiki has nothing about movies. It was the first place I checked. I guess it makes sence to render the animation. Thank you.

If this is the solution I do have a few more questions:
-Can the camera be moved during the scene?
-How would I change scenes?
-Can I set objects to start playing at a certan time?

In the meantime I will search the blender wiki more closely for rendering animations.

Thank you for your help.

Well, for rendering animations you just press the "anim" button instead of still-frame "render".

Quote: "-Can the camera be moved during the scene?"

Yep. Just set keyframes for the camera in different positions/rotations like other objects.

Quote: "-How would I change scenes?"

You can have more than one camera, and control which frames to render. You could render, say, frames 1-50 with one camera, then select a different camera and render frames 51-100. Then you can take the two (or more) separate animations and sequence them with blender or another movie-maker app.

Quote: "-Can I set objects to start playing at a certan time"

Yea, just set their keyframes to start moving at a certain frame, instead of the first one.

Sweet thank you very much. Guess I need to work on learning blender. I was going to switch over from milkshape anyway because milkshape is a pain to do high poly work in.

Thank you again.

In a short movie I made, (and in one I am working on), I did some my 3D animations (but nothing good) in the anim8or program. It has limited features, but its really simple and effective. Take a look at it.

Good luck with it!

Playing games is fun.
Making them is even more fun.
