FPSC Classic Models and Media / How do I animate a safe door for use in FPSC? Do I just use the segment-editor?

I have made a safe that has an open and close door, in AC3D but now I would like to use my new creation in FPSC.

Do I just use the segment-editor for FPSC, configure it to open the safe door, or how is this done? The video tutorial on how to make the door (just a normal one) is a good tutorial. But something as simple as trying to make an animated entity like a safe with an opening and closing door is another matter to me.

So, I would like to ask and see if anyone would have any ideas on how to open/close the safe door? Whatever anyone could offer about this post, anything or everything would be great.

Thanks one and all.

You can use the entity maker, and use scripts.

I put it into Entity Maker already though, but perhaps I wasn't doing it right.

I'm kinda a newbie at modelling my own entities in FPSC though, and am using AC3D to make the models. It dawned on me that when I used the Entity Maker; that I wasn't doing something right when I ran the engine and noticed that everything seems to be working. Like, I would get the open/close dialog below the entity, but the door wouldn't open.

So, I then contemplated using the segment-editor, but even then when the tutorials show how the door frame and the door itself go together - I just thought that making a safe frame and safe door would'nt be that far of a stretch.

Im getting better at using scripts though, and know how to apply them.

Could you speculate more on this though, to clarify some of the things that Im just not connecting with? I thank you soooo much

Make sure you enter in the animation frames when your making the entity.

Yeah the tutorial said, or showed that, the total animation frames was 30, but I used only 15.

So, I ve been using just 15 frames.

I know that Im doin something wrong here, but??

Are the 30 frames opening and closing or just the open?
if the 30 is just it opening then have all of the frames not just half of them.

Ok, will try. I can let you know how it all turned out.

When I made the models for this, I made just two. The safe door frame and the door itself.

I'm a total newbie when it comes to animating models for use in FPSC. I made two models in AC3D, a safe door and a safe frame. Then created both of them using entity creator.

What I want, is to make a safe with a door that opens and closes when you try to open it.

Is this accomplished with the segment editor (like in the tutorial that comes with seg editor)?

Yourll need 3 Meshes
1. The Frame
2. The CSG Punch
3. The Actual Door

only create the Door as an Entity when yourve done that.
Use segmenteditor.. Add your frame as a mesh, apply texture.
Add CSG and choose the csg mesh..
Add entity and choose your door..

place it all so its matching up allright.

Edit the door entity file and set the script to what you want it to behave like
Dooruse etc.

You should be ready to insert it now.

Hi Anja thanks for your reply.
Ive tried what you said above to do this, but there are a few things that I ve experienced here.

When I make the models in AC3D, get the x files, put them into their respective folders and then go into segment editor, they are just barely showing up. The models that is. Like the models are very, very small.

How big should the x models be? Thankx.

Hi again.
I done that, but I think that I am still doing this wrongly. I mean, I modelled just a small safe in AC3D (you know,..the kind that you could place on a counter someplace..) Is segment creator really what I'm supposed to use for this.

Mind you, its not a wall that I'm making. Just a small model of a safe that has an opening and closing door. I think that it would be neat to have in-game, so when someone opens the safe they can find stuff in there. This is the kind that I want.

Any more thoughts or suggestions? I do really much appreciate it?

If you want to do it just as an entity then export the whole model when you are making the entity.

Well, if you want a segment - yes

And now, seriously - it's recommended to make it a segment. Otherwise (entity) the whole object will lose it's collision after opening...

I've modeled safes and similar objects and will advise you to make your model a segment.
It must include:
1. Frame - the static part of the safe
2. "Door" - the animated part
3. CSG - the mesh that will "punch" walls

You may also check some videos here:http://yuppieserve.com/fpsc/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=9

Just look for Animated Safe, Animated Chest...

Well, if that's the result you want, you have to use Segment Editor.

Good Luck!
