I opened the demo, the one with the spaceship on top and the other 3 objects left, right and bottom. The spaceship on top looks blue and cartoon shaded but the left and bottom objects are just black. The right object isn't even visible. I have an ATI Radeon HD 2600. What could the problem be?

If I were you, I would try messing with the shader itself... then put it back to original, and try messing with any parameters (if there are any) that are being passed to the shader ... not necessarily in this order...

I also would scope out some of Green Gandalf's Shaders, and see how those demos pan out.

I've also read some demos might just not "work as designed" on the current releases of the software - and yes - this could potentially mean a demo made PRE vs2008 DarkGDK Free Edition - hasn't been updated.
