Hello, on the web site under system requirments it says that xp users need to download 1.3 upgrade. but i can only find a manual download. Does anyone know where i can find it.

The problem i'm haveing is when you click the cli tab i get a system error surfaces could not be created . d3d devices do not support backbuffer bit depth and hw aceleration.

i also had a problem instaling the darkmatter and when i tried to install the directx 8.1 the cd said that it was created for windows 2000 or me. so compact told me download direct sdk. so i did. But i think i still need to download direct 3d.

prior to all of this i was running directx 8.1 but a diagnostic of direct said in the notes that directdraw and direct3d had a problem

someone please help. i bought this for my teen age son who wants to be a game developer. niether of us really know much about all of this.. but i did buy him some great manules to go with this program. thanks for your help laura

1. I use xp and i don't have 1.13 an it works fine

2. Make more descriptive titles because if somebody else has the same problem they might see your thread and not even know that he/she could have just looked at your thread

3. Go to your purchase history and i will be somewhere in there

4. Everybody loves lists

yes, the forum search is based on thread titles not what's in the thread.

That's the latest file, should work fine.

I'm not an expert, but I got that once and it was because my laptop didn't handle 3D models, it had no DirectX.

erm, INH that would be good and fine except that the 1.13 upgrades that that goes to doesn't have the language file or whatever it is called, just the manual and read me.

...Ah. Oh dear.
The guys are working on making a new installer. It should be up soon, apparently.

You'll just have to wait.

@richlex

Hello,
The Directx SDK is actually for programming directx using C/C++ . If your son really gets into programming it would be most useful then, for now, I think you might need to install the Directx runtime, probably version 9.0c. It's good to have the latest Directx runtime installed anyway, regardless of DarkBASIC. Check out the following link:

Direct X

If after installing the DirectX 9.0c runtime you are still getting errors, you may want to check the capabilities of your graphics card and make sure all of it's drivers are up to date.

Though you mention the CLI tab I'm going to try and avoid making assumptions. Are you able to install the main programming engine (i.e. DarkBASIC itself - not Dark Matter necessarily - Dark Matter is a series of useful 3d models, pictures, music and sound - makes things easier, but it's not a necessary component) ? If you are able to install the main program, and you are ready to launch it, do so. The main screen should be black and run through a series of component checks. In the bottom left hand corner should be the version.

If it reads DARK BASIC V1.12 ENHANCED, you're pretty much good to go. This version offers all of the functionality versions before 1.20 offer, so you can sit tight until the latest version 1.20 is available again for download. If it doesn't read ENHANCED, then there won't be available some of the more advanced commands - which should be ok since your son is just starting. Again, you'll just have to wait until 1.20 becomes available for download again.

Enjoy your day.
