im gonna be getting a new video card within the next month or two (along with vista) for x10. and i have a pretty good idea of what card i want to get. but first, does x10 have support for crossfire? because if so , i'll get 2 2600xt's and xfire them for 1gb of memory(cept the 256bit interface would bottleneck?)

AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ w/ HT Technology 1000MHz FSB w/ 512KB Cache, 2GB DDR PC-3200 - 2x1024, ATI RADEON™ X1900XTX 512MB

i recomend NVIDA 8600 GT- 88oo GTX OC ( what i have ) those cards work really well ( though the 8800 GTX OC is 3/4 a foot long, took me forever to find a way to make it fit )

what doesn't kill me makes me stronger; but if something kills me, I'm not that strong am I?

i would, but im not into spending 400$ on a graphics card. because i bought the x1900xtx 512mb last year for 500$. and i wont get the 8600 series because my video card is 2 1/2 times faster, but the 8600 has dx10 (only benefit)

oh well i've put over $2000 into fpsc x10, but dont say im wasting my money because the game is not going to be free ( except to coffee grunt because he won my contest ), but i go to school with over 500 people wanting to buy my game, 500 x $50 + n(however many forum people buy it) x $50 =$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

sorry to get offtopic, but my point was: "you should invest depending on how you plan to use what you're investing in" ( its in quotes because that was one of the rare times i say something smart )

How are you going to do Product Support and refunds when they figure out the game won't run with DX9?

that would be a good point, except that everyone knows it only works on x10 and im not saying they all have a good enough computer, but most of them do. refunds, just give them back the money they paid me. im not planning to use all this instantly.

Quote: "The typical vision of a new user of FPSC."

to tell you the truth i am not a new user of fpsc. i am, however, new to the forums. i had fpsc over 6 months before i took interest in the forums.

Quote: "im not past 18 years old? so investing in that crap is easy?"

im not over 18, but ive done my homework on this. and "crap"? come see what i bought, its anything but.

but whatever, yall can talk your crap to me all you want. i dont get bothered easily ( ad least not by this kinda stuff ). and no, i wont make a lot of money off the forum members because i know only a few people will be willing to buy it, but i also know you guys arent my target consurmers. i wouldnt get in a flame war if i were you, becaus eyou would be wasting your time, which could be used for something better than making pointless insults at me. i apoligize zero#43, lets get back on topic unless you already picked out a video card and in that case i guess there's no use talking here anymore. gooday yall, if there were no rules on what i could say i would say a lot more, but like i said, a couple of hatuz aint going to bother me.

I am going to upgrade my PC this year, and put in a 8600 GT, 1GB DDR2,
and a new hard drive. When I dual-boot, I'll tell you how it turns out with X10.

Don't get an ATI card. X10 has some compatibility issues with them, and is only meant to run with NVIDIA GeForce 8000 series cards.

unfortunately i havent gotten to start yet ( fpsc x10 hasnt come in the mail yet, probably in next week ) but in the meen time i am doing everything i can with it so far. i have the first 3 levels planned, the story is finished ( begging to end ), i have it advertised around my school so everyone is awaiting for a taste, so once fpsc x10 gets here i will be ready to get into action immediatly.

Quote: "yall finished your millon dollar game demo yet? I wana play? my computer is same as yours but 4 gig of ram like "

even though i get the feeling you are either being sarcastic or just teasing me, ill be sure to let you know when the demo is ready for you. i dont think there will be a whole lot of custom media, because i dont know a lot of people willing to do it for me without pay, but they will be in the credits. i need to set up my e-mail before i can talk buisiness to anyone. Seth Black gave me an offer that i will be sure to look into, but i need to set up my e-mail first.

Higher video memory is really only useful on super high resolutions, so a graphics card with 512 MB will be fine for FPSCX10 and basically any game out there -- unless you game at higher than WUXGA (1920 x 1200). And basically only 24" monitors support that. I've got 8800GT with 512 MB for $300 on Newegg, and even Crysis plays at ~30FPS (1680x1050, all settings maxed out, 0x AA). I don't have FPSCX10 yet, so I can't say for sure what your performance will be, but other people have the older 8800GTS (320 and 640 MB), and the 8800GT outperforms both.

Hope that helps,
MS

@Zero #43 I think you mentioned there was a ATI card with 2 core on one card? if so this is definatly a way better option than crossfire which is just as bas as SLI, A card with two core manages its own jobs to a certain extent wheres as a two seperate cards rely more on the computer tell them which should do what. Basicly one card, two cores, with dx 10 support go for it.

And by the way don't worry bout the x10 issues because even if there is some they will be fixed in the next patch I imagine and you have games to play before then

okay goodie. i'll go for the x2 series (2 cards in one pcie slot).

I appreciate your help MartinS, but i'm more for ati, i have nothing against nvidia, i was thinking about buying one of theirs if the ati card didnt work out too well. but i'm gonna give my ati buddies a try like usual. . x2 series isnt out quite yet, so im debating whether to WAIT and pay 300$ for the dual graphics together, or just buy the radeon 2900pro 512mb with 512bit interface...

AS I don't own X10, I only crawl the board so often.
Although, I believe if you can ask a question, you can type in a Google search bar.
