Here is a screen shot of the GUI for the program that I just finished.
The program (ceSky.exe) is a stand alone executable file written in DarkBASIC Professional.
This tool is used to create skybank folders for use with FPS Creator.

Here is the Download ZIP = ceSky.exe + ceSky_READ_ME.txt

Here is the License ...
( REVISED )

Here is the READ ME file that is included in the zip...

HAVE FUN!

I might be missing something, but it looks like all it does is specify an image to be textured onto each face of the skybox, then exports the final image with a cube.... Am I right?

The same thing could be done in The Gimp or even Paint, except you also have the ability to edit the image inside the app. I dont see what this offers that people dont already have access to.

Not saying it isn't useful, I just dont see people shelling out $10 to use this commercially when they could just use paint or something akin.

This is not for editing images.
You need to use a paint program as you suggest.
I recommend using Paint.NET.

Quote: "I might be missing something, but it looks like all it does is specify an image to be textured onto each face of the skybox, then exports the final image with a cube.... Am I right?"

Right, sorta.
1)It does make a CUBE (skybox) by creating an X file for you.

2)It also converts your six textures to DDS for you so you don't need to open them in Paint if they don't need editing.
( FPSC X10 uses DDS format only, making many existing custom skyboxes in need of file conversion. )

3)It packages your cube and images in a folder with a naming convention that is compatible with FPSC so the resulting output is drag-n-drop ready for FPSC.

Now you can open each image in Paint and then save each one to convert the image format.
And you can open a modeling program and make a box the dimension you need with the proper texturing information.
And you can manually package these files in a folder you create.

Or you can load this, enter the image paths, and click. (this is faster, unless you don't use it properly)

Quote: "I dont see what this offers that people dont already have access to."

The same can be said to Microsoft about its Visual development tools.
Or the same could be said about the third party GUI products for DBP.
However, these tools can make the task faster by automating all or part of the process for us, instead of doing it manually.

It's like asking 'why use a power saw when I already have a hand saw?'

Answer...Because using this is faster than doing it all manually.

Some people have different needs.

The program is free to use for non-profit use.

The $10 fee for the commercial license, that offers the source code as well, is an open-source option for those who wish to edit an existing program rather than starting from scratch while also allowing them unlimited use of the modified code.

I plan to do the same thing with my Poker Machine and the logic used to determine the poker hand. (calculate those combinations)

Some people like to study code that others write, because there is more than one way to skin a cat.
And unless you already know everything, then you just might learn something in the process.
No, experienced DBP users as yourself would not need to study code that has basic functions, but for a beginning programmer it can be very helpful.

Hmm, sounds kind of odd thanking one with my name indeed...

Anyway, This will sure help a few people along with skyboxes.

Actually, if I would've had this when I was figuring out how to do skyboxes, this would've definitely saved me quite some time and work.
