Sorry, pressed 'post reply' before I meant to :$. Anyway...

I'm sure a mmorpg is possible if you put your mind to it, and have a very good plan of what it will be about, how it will play etc.

www.gamedev.net is a good resource for finding out about the theory of game development, and some of the implementation although that will mostly be in C++. The game design articles are very useful I find. I can't think of any others offhand, I'm sure there are some. As for the coding part, ask around here for help with specific aspects.

Hi MechaShadow,

Yes it is possible to do a mmorpg in DB 1.13 the enhanced version and DBPro. The short comming is both is the ability to only have 255 users connected to 1 server at any time. That is the Limitation of Net Game commands in DB & DBPro.
There is at least 1 dll for DBPro that someone made that lets you do tcp/ip & udp/ip type connections. I think this is unlimited.

There might also be a way (a thought I've been playing around with) to make multiple server/client nodes. Let's say you have a game server running with 255 clients. Now, what if that game server could connecet, as a client, into another, bigger server, which handles not only the info coming from the (up to) 255 servers, but also the info coming into those servers from each server's 255 clients? With the possibility of 65025 clients you could make a pretty good mmorpg. And, better yet, the idea could be expanded to include 3 tiers of servers:

Mega Server
/\
/ \
Super Server----/ \----Super Server
/\ /\
/ \ / \
/ \ / \
/ \ / \
Server Server Server Server
| | | |
255 Clients 255 Clients 255 Clients 255 Clients

With three tiers you could have over 16 million people online at the same time.

Bandwidth issues aside, would this idea work?

Find out the limitations of the language u want and its pros and cons to really decide if u want to spend a whole lotta time on something that may not come to fruit until 2009 and even then be 1/10th of the scope u imagined.

If u have never made a multiplayer example then id suggest you try it out first.

I work for MMORPG.com, it would be hard to make a good mmorpg with DarkBASIC, but the people on mmorpg may be able to help. Just so you know my posts are marked with Matthew on MMORPG.com frontpage.

about the graphical representation. Do it like this:

255 Clients ---\
255 Clients ---->Server--\_____MEGA SERVER
255 Clients ---->Server--/
255 Clients ---/

(hope it works)
