I have a new game idea, but can't think of a name. (Which is weird because I was coming up with names left and right for chees hed's game...) If you pick the name for the game, you will receive the game, and some custom media from the game. I can't show any screenshots yet, because there are none...

Category: Survival/Sci-Fi

Setting:
Underwater Greek City

Story:
In Greek legend, Atlantis was a fabled island with an outstanding navy. For generations the Atlanteans lived simple, virtuous lives. But slowly they began to change. Greed and power began to corrupt them. When Zeus saw the immorality of the Atlanteans he gathered the other gods to determine a suitable punishment. According to legend, after a failed attempt to invade Athens, Atlantis sank into the depths of the ocean "in a single day and night of misfortune". As Tristan Craft, a freelance reporter for the local newspaper, you decide to use your vacation time becoming a treasure hunter, and looking for the lost city that could, if found, change the world as we know it. You set your course for the Bermuda Triangle. You figure, if there are so many stories of missing ships in the area, something must be there. You were right. When you reach the center of the Bermuda Triangle, the boats equipment starts to fail. The boat fills up with water with land not visible for miles. You grab the scuba gear, and dive down to the depths of the Bermuda, hoping for discovery. Discovery is not the only thing you find...

Hmm Evil Fate. I have the domain evilfate.com to... It is setup for a music artist but was thinking doing a game with the domain and add a music sound track to it. It is a scifi name... You can release the game with the name with a site for the game...

Hey gunn3r, I like it. Nice build up.
I was going to send you some mail to see if you were planning on working on something. Good to see some more under water action.

Hmmm, names. Maybe try a search for greek/atlantis names/places on google or wiki or something, could produce some results. Something Greek would be cool, like 1 word. Or maybe something simple like Bermuda. Good luck.

@metalkill - didnt see your post.

@metalkill, Evil Fate sounds a little too horrorish for this game. Thanks for the offer though, and if I need a good horror title, I know where to look.

@deca, Thanks for the compliment. I tried searching for the Greek word for discovery and it's anakalypsi, but it doesn't really make a good game title. Thanks for the option, and I will continue to look around.

@Everyone else, If you don't have any names to suggest, at least review the storyline for me, and tell me what you think.

Storyline is great, and a name could be "The Ocean Legend"

IT'S FIVE-YEAR MISSION, TO EXPLORE STRANGE NEW WORLDS, TO SEEK OUT NEW LIFE AND NEW CIVILIZATIONS, TO BOLDLY GO WHERE NO MAN HAS GONE BEFORE.

I am going to continually add everyone's suggestions to my first post so it is easier to make a decision from.

@bum fat cheese, Thanks for the name. I tried to be as unique as I could trying to come up with the storyline.

@coffee grunt, Good suggestions. I'll keep those in mind. What did you think about the story?

I think the story is reaaly good Gunn3r, it's refreshing to see a non-"omg and the guy woke up and there was a gun lying on the floor, then he went outside and found zombies so he has to get out now, lol."

Greek mythology isn't one of my strong points but i think it'll make a good game if you stick with it.....

@coffee grunt, Thanks for the support. I hope it will make a good game. There will have to be a lot of custom media, considering there aren't very many Greek mythology packs out there. Time to actually learn how to model... This should be fun.

Thanks for the suggestions shadow651. Atlantis was actually either real, or it was just the thoughts of Plato written out, and then made into a legend. Homer did not write the legend of Atlantis. Homer wrote The Illiad, and The Odyssey. Plato was either exaggerating over the volcanic destruction of islands off the coast of Greece, or referring to a real island that was sunk off the coast of France. (I did some research... )

@Everyone else, I've uploaded a video to Youtube for the background I will use. Hopefully, I'll be able to use that function in Lemur, if Urlforce Studios was able to get that fixed. If not, then it's still my screensaver...

Plato's Den: An Underwater Adventure Where More Than Just Waves Break.

(waves break; news stories break-> he's a reporter. Also "Plato's Den" Plato-> thinker; gives you room to make it somewhat philosophical.)

Interesting title. It's different. It's unique. Oh, and Urlforce, have you fixed the problem with Lemur about the video menu's? I know you were mentioning that it wasn't building correctly. I was wondering if that has changed.

I have created the option to use it via scripting, so what I plan to do is release it, and have scripters take a peek and let me know if it is working. I am not a world class scripter- but I managed to get the video behind the menu- the problem was returning to the menu after a game.

Some title suggestions:

Ελληνικά (Greek for forsaken, or banished)

The Craft Chronicles (opens things up for sequel titles)

Tristan Craft and The Lost City

Aquaverse

Submerged

Deep Consequence

I like the storyline. Perhaps the Atlantians have been hard at work, with that navy plundering the surface-dwellers all these years? That would account for the odd happenings so far away from Greece.

I imagine the Atlantians are pretty peeved at Zeus & company, after all of this! I'd like to see more of that greed and corruption come into play.

Thanks,

Seth Black

Thanks for the great suggestions and the story review. I think I'm going to make the Atlanteans technologically advanced in some areas, while in others, way behind. Similar to the Disney movie.

I think you should make it more a "thinker" type. Like the whole game is a dream, NOT like umbra. More believable make it hard to tell you are dreaming. He WANTS to discover something, so maybe his mind finds something to discover- get it? And in the last level the character wakes up in a hospital with some jungle fever- leaving the player to question whether or not the adventure really happened.

Good idea. I might implement something like that into the game. I just have to learn how to model. And then learn how to model Ancient Greek cities...

Tristan Craft and The Lost City

Somehow that name just grips me. It sounds like those old adventure-games from the nineties. The storyline reminds me of something in between that of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and Bioshock. If you're planning on making this an adventure-styled FPS game, I'd be more than willing to cooperate, not on full-time though. ;P

Add me on msn or send me a mail if you want some help, gunn3r.

Thanks Roger. I'll need the help. That was one of the names I was leaning towards as well, but I'll let the "game" go on for a day longer and then see what comes out of it. I don't have MSN so we can talk through email.
I just sent you an email, Roger, so it's up to you.

Well first off I would like to say well done to those that offered name suggestions. A nice list is growing there gunn3r.
Also congrats on the team up, I hope you guys go far with this.
Its good to see teams forming, having different ideas worked on when members have time and so on. I wish your development all the best.

Thanks. It's weird. The place where I'm finding the most inspiration for level design is a Disney movie. I never would have thought to take a Disney movie as inspiration for a videogame...

I don't think so. It's just that when you think about it you can picture the scene on the forum

Quote: " Hey, have you played that new game by gunn3r?

Which one?

Eeee...n...vika - y'know - the greek one."

Sorry to rain on your parade, but on a qwerty keyboard, it's just not gonna happen. Unless you just use the word 'banished' in which case then ignore everything I've said.
Anyway, just to make me not feel bad about that what about "Deep Descent" or "Descend and Discover" or "The Wrath of Hades"

@TGPEG, I know that it would tough, but it's only a suggestion... Thanks for your suggestions.

@Slayer222, Thanks for the suggestion.

EDIT: I took the story and some name suggestions to my school and asked a couple of gamers what they thought. One said the storyline was a mix between God of War and Bioshock. The top 5 names that were popular were:
1) Submerged - 3 votes
2) Tristan Craft and the Lost City - 2 votes
3) Ocean Secrets - 2 votes
4) Hidden Depths- 1 vote
5) Odyssey to Atlantis - 1 vote

So many decisions... I don't know which one to choose! I need a day to think these over, ask around and get some more opinions at school. Tomorrow I will post the winner. Post by midnight my time, which is in 3 hours, then I will accept it, but nothing past that. To all of those who suggested a name, thank you. Your name will appear in the credits of the game. I can tell you that much now. (Yes I do plan to have a really long credits) Again, thank you all, and I will announce who gets the free media from the game, as well as a free copy of the game, tomorrow or in about 20-22 hours from now.

...wow.

I'm really glad that I was able to come up with something that you could use for your game, gunn3r!

There were some really great suggestions offered up. The competition was tough. I appreciate the nod.

It's an honor that you decided to use it, to represent your work.

Tristan Craft And The Lost City (TCATLC) will be a great game, of this I have no doubt. I look forward to its release.

Many Thanks,

Seth Black
