Hi,

I tried this over at the 3D Canvas Pro forum with no answers for 2 weeks. Thought I'd give it a try here.

Looking to purchase 3D Canvas Pro. I'm mainly considering 3D Canvas Pro because of the horrors of getting 3dsmax animations into DBPro. Couple questions:

1. I use 3dmax to model and texture ... does 3DCanvasPro import 3ds ok?

2. I can do weighted vertex animations, correct?

3. Any issues related to import into DBPro or any unthought of issues such as animation issues, etc?

In general I just want to know if this product is going to give me any headaches, what the CONS are, etc.

Any opinions?

Am I asking a poorly phrased question? I'm surpirsed no one has ever used this to do weighted vertices animations and has an opinion.

Do you just want to use canvas pro for animation?

If so I'd look at CharacterFX. It has a 30 day trial and if you buy it costs just $20.

I've got canvas pro and I think you can use weighted joint areas but I remember you couldn't alter or modify indvidual vertices which I found real frustrating.

I haven't used 3DCP for a long time now.

*edit*
When I say "I remember you couldn't alter or modify indvidual vertices ", I don't mean in the modeling part I mean in the animation you can't select and alter individual vertice weights or bones they are attatched to.

Yeah I just need it for animations. I have been exporting the un rigged object from 3dsmax in wavefront .obj format and building rig with something else. Can I assign how much vertices move for a bone movement in CharacterFX? Do the animations from it go into DBPro without headaches like 3dsmax?

I guess it is geared toward model creation.

How do you do vertex weighted animations for DBPro, now?

Thanks for the help, BTW!

Yeah, CharacterFX get's my vote - you can specify the weight of each vertice for each bone, it's very straightforward to use and the exported .X files work perfectly in DBPro, just remember to check the object and frame scaling when exporting.

One other thing you should do in CharacterFX is set the animation to linear, then you have a pretty much WYSIWYG system.

less is more, but if less is more how you keeping score?

Actually I haven't been able load any object with CharacterFX demo version. It continually hangs up. I've let it go for nearly 1 hr and nothing. I've tried 3dsmax 9 .3ds format, wavefront .obj, and milkshape ascii forms of my model. The model is larger with ~30k verts.

Any ideas?
