I am looking at modelling a rocket launcher and was wondering if about 1000 polys was an acceptable amount for games. I know that some weapons are a lot less, but this one is pretty big.

you can come along way with just 400 polygons if u plan your model.

Weapons can be around the 1k...
Since the weapon is close to the camera its best
to get it detailed as possible!

But that doesnt mean to make a knife of 1,5k!(example)

if u stop and plan your model right, thinking every curve etc. 400 polygons will get you a long way, and will help you in the end if you use x9.. however if your using x10 2000 polygons is max i think.

You mean the HUD or V_WEAP model? HUD for Jons beretta is ~3000-4000 polys (with hands), so I think it's OK to use ~2500 poly if you're not using hands...

No we mean HUD....the vweap should be less than 2k...
And if the HUD(gun) is around the 4k with hands that is...
Than it surely wouldnt hurt when you use 2k without hands...
or 3k.
