[b]Any advise on how to Copyright a Program (US Law)

Any one currently selling DBPro based software. I have a product I am close to marketing. Current thought process is to release a non saving version and then email anyone who ponies up the fee with an access code

Just put your copyright notice in. Your work is automatically copyrighted. You will need to file and PAY for your copyright before you can go to court and sue someone.

Just thought I'd like to correct swdave- your work is automatically copyrighted when it is created, however you may only sue for damages (money) IF you have it registered.

Just to increase your legal standing a bit, you should send a copy in the post to yourself. If you do it twice, you can keep one in, say, a bank vault (unopened of course).

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

Like everyone else has already stated, once it is placed on some sort of media, like a CD, HD, book, etc, it is automatically copyrighted. However it is best to copyright it in your name unless of course you have a legal business name. And of course register your copyright!

I asked a question like this in alt.law once and that's what I was told.

I think since we've been getting an abundance of copyrighting and publishing, we should make a sticky with all this info. compiled orderly in the general section, or even this section.

Sorry I dont need correction...

You can file at any time even after someone has stolen your work.

For an example;

Everything you see on CNN is copyright. Do you think CNN files 10,000 copyrights per day, NO... If NBC was to use CNN's material without permission and CNN decide to go after them then they will file a copyright before going to cort.

You really should get a real copyright though. You need an intelectual (sp?) copyright on anything like game characters and story. There is other copyrights on stuff like images or the game's code itself. You can copyright just about anything. You could even copyright your own name. I'd hate to have someone with the same name as me copyright theirs (It's happend before). I think some things that are yours are automatically copyrighted to a point. If you want it really copyrighted, you shold buy one. It's not that much money either, I think.

If you want to read more about it, try this:
