I learnt how to model heads, by extruding edges from planes, not so long ago. My first head, you might have seen, which was given to the jester model. Well, the second head I have done, in my opinion, I think is much better, so I am posting images to show you.

Let me know what you think and if there is anything I could change.

Looks pretty spiffy to me!

Looks a bit narrow, you should try to get rid of that nGon on the side of the head, near the temple area.

looks good

something weird going on above the nose though, make it flow with the head rather than collapse.

I'd stay away from the method of extruding outwards from the nose for the nostril, looks kind of weird, keep it a solid mesh.

you've also set yourself up for a nice edge loop but haven't taken it:

could draw some more but its evident your trying to save polygons, in which case, it looks great.

i don't think its too narrow, i do however think the narrow chin pulls off that overall effect.

great work.

@John H

Do you mean this nGon?

@Jon

I like getting comments and feed back from you, Jon , Thanks.

I'm not too fond of the nose anyway, I made it when I wasn't paying much attention, kind of went off daydreaming, ill just go back a stage and remake it.

Ill also add more edge loops. I can allow myself at least 500 Tris

Nice one, as well as low poly. I myself only use the method of drawing vertices and making faces manually, but still, pretty good job.

get rid of this pole.

the face looks very flat from the side

its called poly by poly. It's the best metherd for heads becouse it allows grater control over the topology(edge flow)

that's a quad

a nGon is a polygon with more than 4 veracities, I cannot see any on your model.

get rid of the triangles for now.

a pole is a vertacie with 3(n)-5(E) or more than 5 edges going in to it. avoid poles with more than 5 edges becouse they cause shading errors. add more edge loops to get rid of it

merging the verts circled in green would healp

cut the edges hi-lighted in blue, then merge the resulting vertacies

cut along yellow line,

That's not nice, I know the Polish get frowned by English people but come on, that's a little uncalled for.

Looks good Mr Higgins, even though this is a game quality model you'll need to avoid tris as much as possible because they do cause geometry issues. This may seems like a difficult task but it takes knowing what the polygon flow on a head should look like. A great thing for poly flow is to study other people's models - it's actually a really helpful way to learn.

Also, the face is a little flat, try moving the cheek bone forward slightly and perhaps give the mouth a bit more depth.

Keep it up dude.

It takes blood and guts to be this cool, but I'm still just a cliche

I took a look at another 3D Head, before you posted Seppuku and fixed a lot of the problems, I think.

Let me know what you all think of the new edition.

Also, I've added the high resolution avi to the post (highish).
