Quote: "Anyway, I was thinking of a more Abstract theme for the next compo, maybe a slight change in the rules since obviously these compos aren't getting enough entries. This compo is more for people with access to a renderer, but anyone can enter. The idea is to make an abstract scene with no concrete subject, just something odd and unusual. You don't have to make a new model for this one, since it's scene-based. Find an old model you've made and twist it. Distort it, throw in some funky lighting and render effects, add the random object sticking out of it for no particular reason. And most importantly, have fun"

Latest and greatest competition is here. The deadline will be February 29th, lets get some quality entries!

I always finish these things way before the deadline ><.
Maybe I'll find something on it to fix/add.

The motion blur is pretty spiffy!

Here's mine, hope this still counts as abstract.

That's pretty sweet Phosphoer. And yes, abstract/surreal is okay, in fact my entry is kind of more surreal than abstract, I brokez my own rulez

Speaking of which.....I'm not done yet Still working out some strange lighting issues...who knew inter-dimensional portals would be so hard to make realistic?

Modelled and rendered in Blender. Free software ftw.

@Phosphoer
Why exactly is the flower stem a pencil?

Seriously, how do you make the little blue text come up below your message?

Don't you see the pencil sharpener?? If that were a flower stem, none of it would make sense.

Obviously, it's a pencil because the petals are made of notebook paper.

AndrewT has the right idea.

You might as well ask how the petals stick to the pencil! :p

@A Tea Spoon:

If I'm not mistaken, the man in the wheelchair is a model you made some time ago, so it wouldn't be able to be entered in the compo

Great news guys, competition entries accepted for one more day. Completely forgot about the whole leap year thing.

Anyways, this looks to be one of the most successful competitions we've ever had here, so please be sure to vote!

What? This definitely isnt the most successful . Two years ago there would be like 9 or 10 entries every time, and an intense vote battle.

That's BiggAdd's fault. He made his entry too awesome.

bigAdd definitely put more thought in compostion than most of us I think, atleast for me. It is inspirational, inspires me to try harder next time.

While that's not wrong, it doesn't change what Mike said. As of recent terms the competitions have been somewhat...vacant? So in terms of nowadays, it's been a damn successful competition.

We should try and figure out some incentives/motivation to get these competitions bigger again...I miss them...I may even put some effort into figuring out why Wings hasn't been working right for me, and rejoin them with my absolute lacking of skill ^.^

Hmm, I've counted 9 entries in the entry thread, I'm pumped to see that. Regardless, I'm all ears for suggestions on getting people to do participate in the competition.

I like BenDStraw's Idea. A logo like the BOTB have for FPSC. Or a Sig.

I seriously think BenDStraw has a great idea there, if it can be implemented. If not, as BiggAdd said, maybe a sig
