For some reason, all the programs I compiled and run (including when the .exe is run outside DBpro) keep trying to connect to the internet.

This is driving me crazy. How do I stop this?

It's not trying to connect anywhere. It's just opening the DirectPlay part of DirectX, and your firewall is detecting that.

I get exactly the same thing (I use Norton Firewall)

I had that problem then all of a sudden it just stopped. I don't know why. Perhaps directplay only attempts to connect so many times.
