I love how everyone just tries 1 thing in max, figures its the only way, and stops.
Get this through your heads (you especially Hessius), in Max, theres pretty much 10 ways to do any 1 thing, each way with increasing difficulty and increasing control. The easiest methods are made to be easier to access since they're used more commonly.
You certainly can assign individual verts to bones in max. You can even blend between bones AFTER assigning the verts to smooth things out.
It would take me a long time to explain and frankly Im not that experienced in the first place, but Im just pointing out that max used to be one of the industry standards for decades for a reason (and is only being phased out because Maya, ALSO made by discreet, is essentially max with a new name, look, feel, and tool additions).
Yes it takes some getting used to, but Blender certainly does as well. If you've actually spent the cash to get max, learn it.
