Seems like Caligari was gobbled up by Microsoft

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?p=59557#post59557

Maybe this is the reason the group buy has vanished.

Wondering what this will mean for GS and TS...

I have vague plans for World Domination

More bugs. Less support.

Try Vista it has basically no bugs and has good support.
Also though this may make Caligari better. You never know until you see what does happen.

I used to like TrueSpace, but then I started using Blender...

Also that newest version of TrueSpace was pretty bad. They made the GUI even more difficult to use I think. :\

I hope Microsoft can turn it around a bit.

Microsoft surely has much to add to TrueSpace. Agreeing with Agent Dink, I say that tS7.5's interface is just one of the worst ones I have seen - very messy and inconsistent, totally experimental. If MS changes the tS's GUI to match Win Vista, tS will be much easier and robust. The "player" side of tS will be improved, because it is based on Direct X.

Also, the prices of Caligari's programs will probably be generously decreased.

That was a good buy. Microsoft will learn things from Caligari too, I believe.

I have Vista. It doesn't have very many problems and all tech support is crap anyway. I can't poke fun at MS sometimes?

Anyway, They may add .X as a native format.

TrueSpace is a bit of a hybrid at the moment thats to say it has a split personality ,there is the "Model" side and there is the "Workspace" side connected via a bridge. The "Workspace" side has all the new tools but they are not compatible with the "Model" side.
I suggest if anyone wants to know more about TS7 they should download the demo.

While I really like trueSpace 7.5 (apart from some vray issues), the new gui is definitely awkward and in many ways a backwards step from 6.6. It looks beautiful, but it handles poorly. That said, there were murmurings of improvements being made for the next patch, which now may or may not happen, no one knows.

I've always thought that an interface like the one from Neverwinter Nights would be great for a 3d app. It was just a pleasure to use, and I think the metaphors would translate well to 3d land.

Unfortunately, I think gameSpace is probably gone for good. I don't see it being much use for Micro$oft's virtual earth stuff. Truespace may well end up becoming a defacto GS anyway.

I read on the TS forums that Caligari could not sell MS gameSpace as they do not own all the resources it contains.

That's great

Needless to say I turned that feature off in Windows Vista virtually first thing...

In what? I'm still very happy with my old TS5 - and that loads/saves .X files.

Or do you mean something else?

Maybe this is M$ trying to make a SketchUp type thing, which is not really surprising - SketchUp actually reminds me of the early Truespace.

Was that a joke, mate? .x is a final media format, and it is too final, by the way. I would only use .x if Microsoft rewrites it completely (to be better, of course). And it will never happen. I am not Microsoft hater or lover. Boldly, they really want you to believe that .x is a good format. Scarily, they really think that it is.
