Ok please be gentle! This is my first charactar model attempt ever plus it's done in sketchup (ok maybe the insistance on sketchup is my fault ) This was inspired by LB when I posted my cartoon cars. The solder fits in with a cartoon theme as well.

Comments and Criticism please!

It looks like you've stacked a bunch of spheres into a character, correct me if I'm mistaken? I haven't used sketchup, but I would look into some character modeling tutorials, or experiment a bit more with trying to box model a character, or if you can with sketchup, make it polygon by polygon(the term eludes me o.O) There's not a whole lot of crit/suggestions that can be given for a model of spheres

meh..ok fair enough. The problem is that there are sketchup tutorials for characters, why? Because google sketchup was never intended for games. TBH, I was just experimenting, if you try to search "game characters" on 3d Warehouse (huge collection of sketchup models) you will find hardly anything and then pretty much nothing of quality. Just trying things out.

There's nothing wrong with experimenting, but I figured that it'd be better for me to post some honest, and constructive(at least that's what I was going for) crits, than to just ignore the thread

well in that case I thank you. I would much rather have negative comments that are honest at least

pretty basic but id say its a decent start. the only thing is if there is a way to edit smoothing groups in sketch up you should use it to smooth out the facet look on the head.

good job keep it up,

I am unfamiliar with Sketchup's capabilities and am real surprised that there are no tutorials available for character modeling. You had mentioned that you had concerns about animating in the other thread. Have you ever thought about Milkshape at all? The last I remember, it was only $25(US) to purchase it. There are some tuts available for it and I consider animation relatively easy to do with it.

sketchup was designed originally as a architectural design program that was very flexible. Eventually, it became usable for video games however organic modeling is still priminitive. Perhaps I should look into milkshape.

Or try Wings3D like I have mentioned.
