(Im not emailing this directly to you John because Im sure others have looked / will look for your video tutorials in the future, so this post can direct them to those).

I remember seeing a site a few weeks ago that had a big list of video tutorials done by you on it, started off basic with modelling a goblet in maya, and moved on to rigging a garbage can for animation and more. I was looking for a good Maya brush up, and was hoping you'd be able to link me to that site, if it still exists?

<edit>

Well, I feel stupid, I did a second search for "Maya" and remembered you posted the site in a response to someone's question. I found it, here's the link for those wondering;

Sorry.

Thanks,

I'm getting the feeling that I should have bought Maya as opposed to 3DS Max

Does Maya have easy UV Mapping like shown in John H's human head UV map out, and easy-export to DBPro? (with animations and bones)

Sorry to ask questions google will probably answer, but I figure you will know best.

Haven't seen the video but 3ds max's pelt mapper is something I wish I had in maya all the time I sometimes finding myself booting up max just to unwrap using it

In what I've searched forever for: hell no I've had nothing but trouble trying to export to dbpro. My best attempt so far has been using an old (i think 2005?) plugin from the directx sdk which almost always screws up with animation and seems to contain a lot of extra data. I've tried looking for a method of 'freezing the ik's' as someone here told me but to no avail, and when asking about it again got no response.

Btw I would looooove for someone to prove me wrong on the second topic. And do please tell us what your methods are

Oh alright then. Either way it helped me refresh myself with Maya.

<edit>

I really hate that Maya and 3DS Max aren't easily compatible with each other. You'd think seeing as they're both made by Discreet it'd be one of the first things they'd have, especially since max is still widely used... From what I've been reading to get a 3ds model, retaining animation from max to maya you need a special plugin, and to get maya files to max you can only export them as .obj without animation and convert the .obj to .3ds in an external app like Deep Exploration, then import to max... Pain in the but .

Yeah but initially they were made by Discreet... and then Autodesk took over Discreet.

Actually Maya was made by Alias and 3dsmax by Discreet, then Autodesk purchased Discreet, soon after made the controversial move to purchase Alias.

Autodesk is taking over the world! Two versions of maya have come out under autodesk. You'd think they could have added more features of each to each other (ie the pelt mapping of 3ds max into maya )
