I can hardly imagnine that the next generations of games will be made with DB... And I can hardly imagine that next generation will be a FPS. Lets face it when you have played one FPS you know em all. The genre hasnt change at years the only thing that changes is the looks of em the feeling of playing them never evolves. And by the way wrong part of the forum.

I'm really really sorry about this, but I've been having a bad day. So I am letting my "other" side loose:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Ok, now that that is done, welcome to DB!

ya know trying to keep a straight face whenever posts like this appear is getting harder and harder
well atleast this time they have BSP builtin, and MD3 ... technically it'd be more of a Mod game, so maybe, perhaps...
ah screw it i'm not gonna kid myself - i'll believe this when i finally start playing it

i think u r just too good for C/C++, Raven!

That book was only meant for dummies!

.... MUHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I can't help myself to this part below!

I think Lord Raoul should read about the book,

"If You Ask People To Ask About The FPS Game That You Make Within Your Company With 2 Employers & You Decided To Sell It, You Should Answer Back Those God D@mn Questions" For Dummies...!!!

seriously ... i found the books very confusing!!
its like it was written by a dyslexic writer, decided to put paragraphs all over the shop in no real order!

and the examples don't really help alot
but then again i read someone's MSword for Dummies the other day ... and personally came away with less knowlage of how word works
not to knock them but comeon, they should be names "C/C++ for those people with the ability to learn in whatever order and way we teach you"

i've both books so i'll thumb through them later and give a good example

Hey what is wring with dislexic writers

Anyway, maybe he should start of a bit lower on the legs of the game creation ladder.

The Outside is a evil place to be, too much light, too much noise and too many distractions....
I went outside once and my FPS rate dropped to 5.

The most confusing book I ever read was Sams Teach yourself DirectX 7.0. They made a sallad there of MFC with Basic and even some callings of Pascal ( yep, Visual C++ can compile some statments ). I need to stop to read the book, cause it was making me forget all I've learned, so I returned it.

Well, don't be so mad about the kid up there, Dream does not hurt, maybe someone could "GIVE HIM DA CODES"....

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Yeah c for dummies was the first programming book i ever read (for some reason i learnt how to make simple games in c, then went to db i found db so easy when i first strated as i had abit of c experience).

In c for dummies i learnt how programming works (what a loop is, what a variable is etc.) But i think mainly its just for entertainment, i found some parts very funny.

I might rake it out and get some quoats

Every c book since the time of the ancient romans has the traditional first c program. This book follows that custom, though the Dummies c program has more of an attitude than other c books have. Here 'tis:

******

Computers are really all about input and output -- the old I/O of days gone by. What cowboys used to sing about. The wimmin folk would want to dance real slow. Maybe cry. It was a sentimental thing, y'all. Something fancy, dooded-up city slickers read about in dime magazines.

******

I ask you: How can one compare two letters of the alphabet? Trulym, this subject is right up there with "How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?" and "Would it be a traditional dance, gavotte, rock, or perhaps haevenly hokey-pokey?"

--Dont blame me for any typing mistakes; i scanned in some pages using textbridge

lol yeah he does... which is probably why i didn't understand it much - it would be like me trying to write something like that ... which is why i don't write tutorials

hands on i'm oki, but using words - well thats just a waste of time really
I've used Samms C++ in 21days, Samms Database programming in 21days, Samms C/C++ for Begineers and Samms OpenGL Programming.
only one in the trash is OpenGL - the easiest is C++ in 21days, as thats really the stepping stone book for most of the others. C/C++ for beginers is a really short book, like 150pages ... just goes over operators, examples in C/C++ and Pascal - differences in basic. They used alot of the material edited for a site i learn alot of coding from

ya know to make anything worth while in DB on my own took me about 2years
even now most of it is actually in DLL form - and i'm still not sure about releasing to the public

however as far as FPS goes, depends what you actually wish to achieve - i mean from scratch without and engine to base upon one would take a year or two.
however everything is based upon old technology now, which kinda explains the stagnation of formats - i mean think about it most companies even knowing that BSP isn't good for outdoor terrain have simply adapted it rather than build a viable solution!!
Best example is Unreal2's new engine, they've developed and outstanding terrain patch setup - but the world format is still bloody BSP and it kills apart from on power PCs!

...probably why right now Mofux is my most liked person for his idea for FMTbsp - certainly has allowed vis setup to take a new direction for myself atleast.
want to adapt it for DB first see what a TRUE acceleration it can give something fundimentally slow - also wanna see if it can perform better than Kev's Portal Format

oh man... we could probably email DBS. They said that the old forums would be put back up for archive purposes. That should mean that they still have them.

Was the guy who asked for 'DA CODES' the same guy who spammed the forum with db product keys? I think it was from then on that the forums died.
