3 Dimensional Chat / 3DS, X, MD3: Geometry Format supporting both Vertex and Bone Animation?

What Geometry Format supports both Vertex and Bone Animation? 3DS, X, MD3? If two formats are necessary, can a vertex animated .MD3 Head be glued to bone animated .X Body? Does a MD3 mesh support bump, normal, specular, maps? Any help from someone more experienced with these formats will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I dont know the answer to your question, but just pointing out, IIRC DBP doesnt support vertex animation. If that's what you're using them for that is.

MD2 and MD3 are both vertex animated 3d formats, in which motion is created by directly manipulating the individual vertices of the mesh. Both of these are supported by DBP.

Yes, but I don't think DBP supports it. Yes, it supports the format, but DBP doesn't support vertex animation itself. I could be wrong, though.

If this is the case then mesh animation commands do would not work on MD3 model which would make support practically useless. I reckon I'm gonna have to experiment myself to get the answer (which is time i didn't want to waste on this )

I think it does work. I'm sure I've played vertex based animations. In fact I'm sure I did that with a sample DB Classic model!

Mixing types of models should be OK, Techlord. Glued models are still independent - they just take positional cues from each other. You should be able to play animations for each independently.

Don't model files all get imported to DBO format when the engine loads them anyway?

Ending a sentence with a French word is so passé

I have yet to experiment, but, I hope so because that would answer this question:

I'm multi-tasking between Network and Script Engine coding for my MORG. I'll make time this week to experiment with these Graphic Formats. Glady accepting 3DS, X, MD3 models for the experiment
