Yes, I intend on upgrading it soon. At least I know that that is the problem and not something else.

Here's my Specs. Don't want to mod the engine not knowing that it can't handle it .

Inspirion 9400

Intel Core Duo CPU T2250 @ 1.73GHz

2046 MB Ram

Vista 32-bit Operating System

Is that good?

If the graphics card isn't stated on the box, it isn't going to be any good (otherwise they'd tell you about it). A quick Google search reveals this laptop probably won't run the mod, in fact it almost certainly won't.

Sorry it took so long, NightHawk.

Here's a screenshot of the same level I used to test your mod, but using Lemur. You can see the FPS is much higher (I uncapped the framerate to take this shot, so this is as fast as it can currently go). The Bloom displayed here is still buggy, though (causing more lag than necessary), and it will be replaced with a better version later on.

the efxMod FPS-Rate is capped

i tested it yesterday... i'll upload one of these screens, too
(it was more than 120 FPS with the efxMod...)

42 FPS is not much for Bloom & Water

what are your System Specs?

Nighthawk, i am glad to see you are releasing this for free, but if you can make a higher frame rate, and water physics, you will be the most generous person on this whole forum. when both are finished (lemur and efx) i shall compere them, if lemur has better quality "bloom, water, physics, frame rate, reflection" then it's on my shopping list. (dont care about all the multiplayer features)

Call me Alex. Please. OR at least let me change my forum name...

So, here it is.
More than the triple Polygon count and more than the triple FPS Count!

Plystire's sample: 8704 Polys @ 42 FPS
efxMod sample: 31414 Polys @ 134 FPS

isn't that a difference?
i don't know how different our systems are - but there would be a better performance anyways.

and, by the way, it's timerbased.

if its timer based, i can release my 8400gs!!! it is a god, because i overclocked the heck out of it and attached an aftermarket cooler.

(i know, its a bit too much for a low end card, but now it rivals the 8600gt)

ON TOPIC:

if its timer based, i expect to get around 130fps. i really hope you fix the underwater bug, the door bug, and add water physics, thats what i am waiting for!

A timer based FPSC Engine doesn't mean you get more performance - it just maintains a constant game speed

means: if you have few FPS - it runs as fast as on a machine where you get many FPS

the bad thing about it - and that's why there will be an option to (de)activate it:

If you have a FPS rate of, let's say, 2 FPS
The enemies will kill you - you won't be able to kill them because they keep the normal speed.

Okay - bad example.

I wouldn't recommend the efxMod on a machine that doesn't meet the minimum FPSC System Requirements.

In v1.5 (or later) there will be an automatical routine to check for incompability or general performance.

And the 'syncrate management' (does not only affect the Sync Rate! - i just had to find a name for it) does the rest - regulating the effects quality and smooth transitions between shader effects (Bump > Normal > Parallax > Relief for example)

well I have a 2.6 gig machine and gforce 7 card and a small test map I made, nothing special or complex at all, gives in some places 6 fps using efx, so unplayable, I dont blame efx, fpsc runs like sludge anyway, efx makes the game look better, but fpsc the product is just busted, not sure if Lemur fixes the frame rate issue and you can actually make games with fpsc.

The 1.49 / 1.5 is still not released - so actually there are bugs and a bad performance

but those nice shader effects won't run better with Lemur - you can't get more out of a machine that runs the FPSC at, let's say, 10 FPS

As i said before, you'll get a few extra-FPS on slow machines with the new version
on highend system it will also be possible to go over 60 FPS

as you can see above, it can also run at 134 FPS or more with Water+Bloom

And, again by the way, you'll get also Motion Blur - and this time without any performance loss (compared to Water+Bloom)

Bloom Tip: try setting the BlurWidth to 0.04 and pushing up the Brightness to 0.9 or so
depending on the other settings you'll get a nice Delay-Effect

I'm not quite understanding this. In my build of lemur (timer based and weapon mods) it is perfectly possible to kill someone at a really low framerate. Why can't EFX do this?

This was just an example - and no example of efx!

Just a bit of theory

If the AI is very "intelligent", the framerate is low and you use a timerbased engine - you'll lose
but anyways - it's hard to play at 1-2 FPS...

Timerbased movement is good for using higher framerates - but everything that is at the deadend... well...

So when do you plan to release this newer version? I don't really want to release 508 until I can implement the new version's goodies
into it.

Looking forward to this Nighthawk

I think this will be the option I go for. Not because of cost but I'm not too concerned about multiplayer features and this looks just as good as Lemur v2 from an effects perspective.

Are you planning to work on FPSC X10 once Dark Basic Pro X10 is released or are you one of those people determined that it won't ever be necessary to upgrade from Windows XP?

Just thought I'd ask as surely once DBPX10 is available it would be better use of a good developers time to take something thats already got shader support / water / timer based / better AI etc and make a mod to really push whats currently possible.

I think what you've done is amazing and the X9 users have been blessed with your mod. I just hope your not planning to limit yourself to X9 going forward.

Really beautifful effect, congratulations!
But something is wrong my game is to slow... yes, im using fpsc version 1.0.7 and i also build a VERY small and simple level (just a room with a guy and a light), but its to slow!

you will probably ask my computer specs (as you asked another user) so...

processor: pentium(R)4 CPU 2.40GHz
ram: 1gb
Graphic card: im not sure, i just know that its 256 mb (dedicated)

i know, its a poor computer but i played much more complex levels with fpsc, and i cant play using this mod in a small one?

maybe you can check this via the Hardware Manager

anyways - it seems the system is not very high-performance

i said it many times: you should use high to mid end systems, otherwise the efx Mod won't run properly

Quote: "Don't quote my engine's performance out of context again, okay? Or can't you read?"

erm... i never quoted it out... or did i?

And the answer for your last question: I can read

Our goal is to have those effects in X9 - if we start working on the with DX10 some time, this wouldn't make any sense

Bugfixes regarding efx Mod Problems and Problems we had to solve for using our modifications
it also stands for general bugfixes regarding earlier releases

thanks for replying.
If i can't use this in a simple room, i really need to improve my computer (unfortunately, its gonna be hard to play this game in my friends computer because many people don't own a good computer) wathever... maybe the water is slowing down my game...or something else... is there anyway to solve this problem? like disable some functions? that parralax looks great, though I must say I get very poor performance out of the version I have, simple maps can give me, 7 fps in some places, and the maps I tested are nothing fancy at all. also opening the global script to change sybox crashes the editor, it looks better but its unuseable for frame rates for me, dont know if Lemur will be any better, or if the new version will fix stuff, still its interesting seeing you put in features that the original fpsc could not do, and still hasnt, Lemur and efx both send a message that these guys are owning Lee, they are leaving you standing mate. these people have added features in what seems like mear weeks to me, that has been absent from classic fpsc for years.

there's no 1.08 Source available - so there are no headshots

You can use the efxMod with the 1.08 Editor - it works

Could do with a few more shots of the parallax, its difficult to see how much depth is on the texture, bricks are always good to see parallax in action, also be sure to use carzybump and not the standard filter that comes with photohop from nvidia as that one is pretty useless, crazybump is the best I have used and gives fantastic results.

you don't have to say that... i know that for my own

tomorrow i'll post some more screenies (it's almost 23.00 here in Germany)

I actually found out if you have many NPCs in a level - so a low framerate - and then kill them all or most of them
then it also stays at 21/22 FPS on my machine

i think it has something to do with our shader-intensive structure

every well-informed computer freak should know that the NVidia Shader Architecture is less complex than ATi's - maybe fast - but not good for quality/really intensive shader usage

does anyone with an ATi Graphics card (actually High-End/Mid-End!) have 21/22 FPS all the time?

@ Airslide:
yup, they are
btw. i had to recode some parts of that light management... however it is called... to make it look right

I have ATI HD3850 and I have 20 - 27 fps with 3 enemies in same room but when I kill them my fps goes up to 30 - 35. What timer based frame rate means?
