there is a version of dgdk called dgdk.net that is being rereleased in a short while (I have been beta testing it for Apex). It will work just like the original dgdk.net did, except without the auth key stuff, and a few new editions I cant mention. So, in other words, keep watching this forum for the annoucement of the release

Good..good. I've been scratching my head as to which kit to use for my game, so far I've started it in GDK and DBP. I would love to be able to use .NET and C#, but I want to test the speed of GDK.NET. Would you say that it is faster than DBP?

I won't mention them either, so... just wait a little bit more!

About being faster... I'm really not sure how faster it would be compared to DBPro, but I can say I could write code faster and it looks cleaner than DarkBasic.

Absolutely, writing code in C# using VS is much nicer than BASIC and I would go as far as to say even C++

agreed, as long as you mean Procedural Basic and not VB.NET

... well, if you really look at it there are only a meager 365 "days" in a year.

I have vague plans for World Domination

Will this mean we can now use LINQ against our sprite and 3d object lists?

Will this one install if we have professional instead of express, unlike the C++ version?

yep, as said above, we can use anything with it. When we were beta testing the first dgdk.net before its release, I made a backgammon game built entirely on small custom classes and .net Generics. It was an eye-opener as to how cool it was to mix .net concepts with db_, and how simple it was to get what would otherwise require a lot of coding, up and running quickly, and behaving perfectly, in neat, clean, modularized, oop code.

I know I could use LINQ with my own custom classes.

I was referring to: Will dgdk.net have a new function that returns a IEnumerable/IList for the sprites and 3d objects(or even images and memblocks), or will we continue to have to use own cutom lists?

I guess in the grander scheme dgdk/dgdk.net doesn't need to since chances are I'll need a custom class to track game specific values anyway.

not unless it was a true dgdk.net that was recoded from scratch in .net, currently that is not the case. Its a COM Interop wrapper exposing the c++ libs to .net

correct. I think of it this way... use the db_ commands for almost nothing else except the dx tasks...thats it

Stupid question, what does this mean for those like me with commercial licenses of DarkGDK.Net? Any licensing issues to use the new version or do we have to pay to upgrade or what?
Thanks
(ps I also have VS2008 Pro working with Dark GDK for those wondering if it is possible)

I'll guess - correct me if wrong people - but - YOU GOOD MAN!

TGC does have an honor system! Their Licensing I THINK follows this ideal: You Supported Us - We Stand By You Now - you didn't Support us? PAY US... then we stand By You too!

Apex, since the GDK.Net is your baby, what is the answer to the question for cost? Thanks
