*sigh* Let me start off why I'm so mad.

I have know this really great guy for about 3 years now, maybe even 4. And he's just an Online Buddy. Really great guy and all...And, just tonight, after I started to teach him C++, he sends me this f*cking virus desguised as a beta RPG.

Okay, what would make some guy do that? This just pisses me off. Theres no reason to do this, and this guy is lucky I have a laptop & CDs of Win98 and SE. Otherwise, I know where he lives - I could sue. Litterally. For all you future "elite" out there, lemme give ya a hint - make SURE that the person ur trying to f*ck up doesn't know you...

What's even worse, I FELL FOR IT..I thought it was his try at an RPG. Luckily, I shut off the power - my computer was making WEIRD hd sounds. Also, another point - its an HP, it comes with total recover disks...I should use em hehe..

Never underestamate me, or any other nerd out there. I will beat him so hard he won't know what happened to him, his website, and why he has a freaking virus that doesn't go away on his computer.

/insane rage

So..what should I do to him? I have saved up on my computer how to make a virus that can't be deleted......oh wait..thats my desktop..that had the virus....

Maybe I'm a bit too harsh, but what would you do in this situation? My files better be in tact, or...grr...

Quite ironic....After installing Win98, I went to install my drivers from the HP Recovery CDs, and I get an error, "Can't be used on a non HP Pavillion machine".

Oooh yeah..Just pure brilliance...

Apparently, the owner of www.aj64804.com @_@...And no mistake..The program litterally told me something bad was happening to my computer.

Ooohh..Some fancy coders @ HP. Yep thats for sure. My CD drive doesn't work on my desktop, luckily I have a DVD Drive. I used it to load windows. Now, the freaking code doesn't install from the other drive, some dumb coder only put it as the default CD rom drive.. Man, they must be really proud of themselves

Curse the apes coding at HP!

Excellent. Yes..Muhahahahaa!

I'm trying to find his IP, and for somebody with Dial-Up, he sure as hell keeps his IP hidden.

*sniff sniff* I can't figure out how to get my HP working again. I installed Win98, 1st edition. Then I try to install all drivers by using HP recovery, and I get the error that its not a valid HP machine. So then I use the system recovery tool. But then my problem is that my CD drive doesn't work, so the software doesn't work restoring it (although it gets to a nice point before stopping!!)....

HELP!

Don't jump to conclusions so quickly.

The next wave of viruses does a lot of work to pass itself as legit. (Finally) they have started using common business phrase, such as "Re: Game" or "Re: Movie we were working on" and so forth, and the good ones can dig through your address book and find legit contacts and so forth and send to them using you address, or by passing off a legitimate address (ironically, I received one today claiming to be from HP).

Actually, I only send large projects by AOL IM any more. Safer, and pretty easy to conclude the legitimacy of the send.

to do the recovery, you have to format your disk, then restart you comp, then insert disk one of recovery, then let it go, follow directions form then on. I have to do this alot on my crappy Hp.

Downloading the drivers..hmm..good idea..hope they can fit on a floppy..the HP doesn't have WinZip.

But, whats the use of HP drivers when...it isn't reconized as an HP??

Maybe I should just install my cable con on there, hope it works, upload all work and reformat...with all my programs..DXSDK (200 meg CD on, and 250 meg of files on there), DBC/DBP, Maguma......ugh..too much to list.

I'll get back on early this morning. I'm too tired to type

morph, you get your ip when you connect to the net, which means it changes all the time. Thats why people say when you have broardband people can hack into your pc, because you never re-connect and your IP remains the same

I relize that, but ISP (Internet Service Providers) buy a wide RANGE of IPS to use. If I find one, I simply have a ton of research to do about it, and then hopefully find the isp...

->lol ok jumping to conclusions...perhaps he inadvertantly had a virus on his computer that corrupted the exe he sent you?
No, you must not know what AOL Instant Messanger is. AIM is a program where users can chat and send files between one another much like MSN, YIM, ICQ, and Trillian. This guy just popped up, asked me to check an RPG he was coding, and wala. My life just went to F*ckingsville, USA.

Okay ppl, I need help. My CDRW isn't working, it can't read CDs I get the error "cdr101 error: read error" or something like that. So, I use my DVD drive. I need get rid of the Win98 I just installed, and put on the HP Win98, but I have no idea how to do this when my CDRW is screwed. The stupid apes at HP coded it only to run from the CDRW. How should I fix this? I really need the HP Win98 because right now the OS is screwed, 640x480 mode, 256 colors (prolly less), no internet, no programs, no nothing.

How should I fix this wee problem?

Maybe. Thats actually a good idea, but if I really wanted to do any swapping, I should just use my dad's defective desktop thats lieing in the cornor (litterally) collecting dust. I'll call him up and ask about that, but I have a large feeling that he don't want any son of his messing with his computer........thats broken.......

you considered upgrading to XP and installing Norton... i mean just a suggestion but unless the guy is a wizz coder they'll stop whatever little thing he's cooked up dead in its tracks.

Only thing that gets past good software nowadays is an even better polymorph - which arn't simple to code, especially as you need to code them in ASM else they'll trigger windows alarms all over the shop.

Morph, what's your computer model? There's just a small chance it'd be like mine, and I know how to gut my HP pretty well .

To what extent is your computer not working? Do you have a zip drive, or access to an external CDR drive? My suggestion is, back up all you hold dear, and... you know... format C:. I finally had to do that when Windows ME went berserk and killed itself... I wasn't able to back anything up though ... ahem. Anyways, that's sure to wipe out all your data-- but all your problems also. A fresh start might be a good thing, actually.

The HP is at bootup condition. It can bootup all the way to Win98 (1st Ed), in 640x480 screen res. with 256 colors. Drivers could fix that I bet. I dunno if an internet connection can get set up, but if installing a CD drive doesn't work tonight I'll try uploading all my required files and format it to death. It has a floppy drive, DVD drive, and a CDRW (not working).

And no, I don't really wanna upgrade to WinXP..That means I'll prolly have to upgrade my CPU to at leaset P3, and .. I don't really have any money. WinXP may be a good idea, its just...I dunno..racism? If I can't get my computer working (I can with a reformat), then I'll buy WinXP or sumtin.

My HP is a Pavilion 8500 (number is sumtin..I forget)

my brother runs WinXP on a Cyrix 6x86 200mx Computer, so why would you have to upgrade. Processor speed doesn't really affect how fast it goes really, only the gfx when you wanna run it at extreme resolutions - but no doubt older windows are worse

Whats the point in spending a lot of money on features you don't want and make your computer run slower.

Keep the money and save up for a new computer bundled with xp.

You might be able to get the drivers off the cd. The cd software is usually badly written and often just unzips the drivers and runs the driver setup program. Look around on the cd and you might find the .zip files with all the drivers in. They are usually named with apparently random letters and numbers so you could be going through a hundred odd files looking for the right drivers for your hardware. You could also try the hp website.

If you know what hardware you have you can search for the drivers in google. This will usually get working drivers. I have no idea how to find out what hardware you have in windows I usually use linux to find out.

Morph, this is a tough situation, I mean since you've known this guy for like 3-4 years, it's hard to say that he'd just pull a trick like that on you.It just doesn't seem right.

On the other hand, if he had intentionally done this, you should really get it back at him.(that's what I'd do)

For now I say he's Guilty, until you make contact with him again(if you'd even want to do that)

Agreed, if thats his response, he should be dead. I vote too to hit him hard, if u can, frame him into stealing bank account numbers and make it tracableby police all the way to his house. I say as long as u think its enough punishment for him, do not stop from there, but continue on to make his life miserable than hell itself. Make him wish he was never born, get him in jail for national security or something if possible.

Yeah, sorry..I should have warned people.

ex.
bob3515@aol.com
bob34542@aol.com
