/ Applause

And thank you for joining this thread on what hopes to be an enthralling chain of posts enlightening the DB Community on their favoured utilities, in which they use to create their media for their programing, whatever format.

And please don't talk about "It depends on your own style, and your own needs...". I, and probably many others, understand that. But I ask only for which are the favoured utilities among us all so to give suggestions for others to try out. No-one wants a full blown war on which is the best Modeller of all time or what ever.

Please help the community by saying which are your favoured programs in which you use to create your media used in conjunction with your programming activities. Say as many, or as few as you like in any category (be it modelling, animation, 2D drawing or whatever), and leave reasons if you wish.

Please, for everyones benefit don't start a flame war. I want this to help everyone.

Thanks in advance to all who contribute.

Ok these are my favorites:

3D - Wings3D, Lithunwrap (Wings Rules!)
2D - (in order of preference) Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop (I have both), Print shop, and MS paint (Very simple stuff).

I can just about use Cinema4D XL7. Pretty good with Dance 5, but my favorite utility is Visual Studio 6.

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

3D -- Notepad
2D -- Notepad
Vector -- Notepad
Web animation -- Notepad

Ah, notepad . . . No one would ever need to buy software if everything was in an open format that could be read by notepad.

Actually . . .

3D -- Max, although Wings is handy; and Poser is very cool, if completely useless for anything except artwork (and it has an awful render engine)

2D -- PhotoPaint, but it isn't as modern as PS

Vector -- Illustrator, although Freehand has potential
Web animation -- SWISH, is so much easier for non-programming Flash file and GIF and AVIs

Sound -- SOUND FUDGE!

Video -- none, they all suck

For 2D
thegimp - Does everything I need to that mspaint can't and is free.
mspaint - simple and efficent. It's a lot quicker to do some things in paint than the more complicated programs. It doesn't save transparacy in pngs which is a pain.

2D - paint shop pro 7 (I doubt I'll ever need anything else although i said that about PSP5)
3D - internet, unwrap (awesome little program)

Ive tried 3D modelling but im useless! In the words of Homer 'If really difficult to do then its not worth doing'.

from future review of next game....
'..while the programmer of this game may not be God-like he certainly represents the next step in human evolution. (10/10).'

Hmmm... I'm guessing this is the ghost of WindowsXP, but now if I do anything remotely 3D with Wings (ie anything other than clicking menus) the werl.exe crashes. Anyone else had this issue?

Thanks

I use Notepad for almost everything possible

For 3d I use Milkshape3d for lowpolymodelling, Lithunwrap to skin it, and 3dsmax for complex 3d and fmv

For 2d I mostly use Paintshop Pro 5-7, Animation Shop 1, and sometimes Photoshop7

Bunnies aren't just cute like everybody supposes, They got them hoppy legs & twitchy little noses,
And what's with all the carrots? What do they need such good eyesight for anyway?
