Does anybody know if the difference between directx 8.1 and 9 will cause incompatibility with multiplayer commands?

No diretx 9 has some really good multiplayer stuff built in even better than 8.1.

I know that dx 9 is better than 8.1 but if i make a multiplayer game on my computer and i have dx 9 will someone with 8.1 still be able to use it?

the reason i ask is that i cant get a program i made to work right.
i made an earlier post about it. if you would like to help me please read my other post. thanks
