Well originally I had Panda, a long time ago, but Panda was really buggy then and didnt work. So my only choice was to get DE. When Panda started working properly, I already had DE so all was fine.
However I still think DE has it's advantages. It lets you view the model before and after export, set it's textures, tweak it's animations, view all of the model data (file size, polycount, etc. ), render it, clean up the mesh, and a lot more. Plus it supports almost every 3D file type so if I want to do a batch export into .x, .obj, .ma, .xsi, etc to load into my other graphic apps, I can pretty fast.
But in the end theres no big difference, it takes longer to use DE, but you get more control and data back.
