Hello everyone, Enigma here.

Well, as some of you may have seen/heard, I am in a game development course in school, and I am using DarkBasic. Our mini project we are doing, is: We have a plain, and make small cylinders to represent the axis. There is a cube (shaped as a rectangle) in the middle. And in the top left it displays the coordinates and angle measures you are facing. We then had to import this goblin looking thing, and make him move with 8,2,6,4 and make the cube move with ^,v,<,> We then had to make him jump, texture him, and add collision boxes to the cube and him.

Well, I wanted to make collisions just to the goblin himself, not in a cubic area, because his back end doesn't go near the cube, just his head. So, I was wondering, how would I go about making all of him have collisions? And then, I don't know how to texture individual spots on him, so like I don't know how to make him look real.

Thanks for your time

Enigma

There are 5 types of collision in DBC:

Set Object Collision to Boxes
Set Object Collision to Spheres
Set Object Collision to Polygons
Make Object Collision Box
Make Static Collision Box

Try and figure out which one of these would apply to having "all of" the goblin being tested for collision.

You also want to texture the goblin. Making him look real has to do with how good of an artist one is or how good the textures you can get your hands on are, but to texture the individual parts of him... What are the individual parts called? And the name of the command to texture these parts has what the individual parts are called in the command name.

Depending on the level of detail you want in texturing the goblin, you may have to do a lot of trial and error in creating the texture so it looks right.

Enjoy your day.

I would think it would be polygon, but you are still being vague and aloof about it. I want to make it where his arms have collision boxes, his head does, torso, and legs. I do not know how I would specifically get them on there.

To the textures, graphics aren't the problem, there are preset textures, I mainly want to know how to put one on for the head, torso, arms, legs, etc. also, I don't know how to name the parts. I put the goblin in like this.

That's not exactly perfect, I don't remember exactly what I did for the loading, but the main part was the loading object part. His parts don't have separate names, so I don't know how I would go about separating them to name and make collision boxes on.

aloof?

I'm trying to encourage you to look up the commands by giving you clues so they become your own. I think TDKS tutorials go into more depth about collision so reading through those should get you on the right track for this entire assignment.

Set Object Collision To Polygons - sets collision to each individual triangle that makes up the entire object including limbs.
limbs - the individual mesh parts like an arm or a leg
Texture Limb - put a texture on each limb
Limbs are numbered starting from 1 and increasing sequentially (though limb 0 is the main object limb number)

Enjoy your day.

Mmmmm..

Thank you

Yes... Aloof lol.

I know, but I guess I could say I am being lazy lol, I just want to get somewhat of the answer right now XD What I plan on doing, is when the school course is over, and I have good knowledge of it (and the thing itself) and when summer comes. I am going to go through TDL's tuts. I have em bookmarked :p Also I do darkbasic at school, and the tgc forum doesn't work at school.

So, one leg would be like 1, and the other 2, the torso 3, the arms 4 and 5, and the head 6? Sweet When I get back to school I will try all of this Thanks again Latch.

Go to the new thread I made, I have what's going on with the collision there...
