Okay, this has happend loads now and is discouraging me with ANY Projects I start.

My problem is the fact that darkbasic pro isnt saving my projects, or is reverting them to an old state. For Example
I was programming a neat little scrolling space shooter. Got some good effects Had a godd shooting routine, alien AI etc. Iw as pretty chuffed with myself so i saved it immediately!. I loaded up the program the next day and all that was in my code window was my main menu sequence. My checklist and everything else was fine, but the code had magically vanished. All i was left with was a menu and no game code at all, not even the spaceship moving!!!
This also happended today, I had just settled into the menu sequence of a columns clone, and I left the computer for an hour or so, and i saved my work. Loaded it back up and voila, only a delete all media function was there. Im starting to get really P***ed off now and ive had other problems with DBP. I really wonder if there was a point in WASTING £50 on dbp. after all, its not doing anything useful!!!!!

Please someone reply, im using the most up to date patch for dbp. and as an Original Db user i am not to happy!! It would be nice to actually finish a project without it being LOST!!!!

I've been using DBPro for ages now, and I haven't lost any source since before xmas - here are the things that I do.

1) Save often.

2) When you want to save, make sure you save each source file, or hit save all.

3) If you close the editor and you are prompted with 'save changes before closing' click cancel, save everything and then exit.

Make sure that you are using the latest editor patch too.

This is sometimes a problem where the .dbpro file becomes "disconnected" from the .dba file. Go into the place where you stored your project, and open the .DBA file (NOT the .dbpro one). The IDE will ask you if you want to make a new .dbpro file, click YES.

Do you want Windows menus in your DBP apps? - Get my plugin: http://snow.prohosting.com/~clone99/downloads/tpc_menus_103.zip

I've had the same problem as ConsoleBoy164.

I've found that if you save source rather than save project, that always saves correctly 100% of the time.

I had that problem too. Most of the time (Since Patch 4.1) if I click "Save All" and then go to exit straight afterwards it prompts me with "Save changes before closing". Now I always paste my entire source code into a separate backup text file just in case.

Save project may only save the .dbpro file not the .dba source files.
Also if you make changes to the project file but not the source files it will exit with out saving or prompting you to save.

we're all waiting for the new IDE or even fixxes to the old one - pitty it is pretty likely that it isn't likely to be soon on the horizon

Install patches. Not likely to help, but it may fix something u did to DBP.

i thought it was rather odd that when i clicked save (or save all) then exitted it asked "do you want to save?" duhhhh i just did, oh well I think copy and paste into a txt file is a good idea, just in case!! but when i checked the dba file in my space shooter scenario, it was just the menu code and i had literally lost my source. Oh well, time to be safer than usual

Yes, this has happened to me once, and I began to get quite worried - I was about to loose two or three weeks of work! Fortunately, I managed to reclaim my source files from out the temporary directory. Close call!

It hasn't happened since then, and I'm sure I haven't done anything differently either.

Almost every time I work with multiple source files, I have this problem. One thing I noticed is that if you double click a source under the files tab and then close the window and continue to do this, you will eventually get an access violation. This seriously needs attention as I have lost a lot of data over it. I can still "save" my work with out it telling me there is an error, but in fact, it doesn't always save my work after that. If you must work with multiple source files, open the window once and switch between sources using the drop-down combo.

Current Projects: Game Spawn 85%, mini BSP maker 50%, Height Mapper with many features 75%, Space Tactical (Like BC300AD) 15%.

I've had similar problems, especially since I split projects across several files. "Save All" fixes everything ...

There should be several .bak files in your project directory. These are backups made very time DBP sucessfully compiles.

You are the th person to view this signature.

save all has actually helped now! it seems i dont need to worry too much, but the .bak files may help. Maybe the DB team should take this into to consideration, someone could get quite annoyed (say youve worked for 5 months on an rpg??) anyway, ill just have to watch.

Never had a problem with losing a source file. I'm running close to a dozen source files, with over 6,000 lines of code, in a single project.
On the other hand, I click "Save All" everytime before I compile....
(It doesn't cost anything to do that...)
Also, about once a week, I click on the project folder, and copy all the sources to a 'Backup" folder, into subfolders named with the date I took the backup. Never had to use the backup folders because of a data loss, but occasionally when I want to fall back to code I had "revised". (Duh!)
I don't trust this newfangled technology stuff to wipe my bottom and keep me safe from sharp knives, so I take a few prudent steps to protect myself....

Why have sharp knives around you when you're wiping your bottom? Uh, never mind ... I don't think that I want to know

ConsoleBoy164: Surely if you've been working for 5 months on an RPG you'd keep a backup?
