hey hey, well not that ive finsihed anything yet, that is big enuff to worry about this, but, i have been scratching my head over this...

after installing the game (off a distro cd - pffft thats a while off) using any of the many installer apps ya can get, how would i or anyone else who hasnt asked yet, write the code in dbp so that ya can leave all ya media or the big stuff (like movies clips etc) on the cd?? i mean we gotta consider different users have a different number of drives so just telling it to be hard coded to look at d: or e: etc whatever would not work... know what im getting at?

i guess i could use perform checklist for drives, but then it would have to muck around trying to figure out which one/s is/are the cd-rom drive/s arghhhhh !! why isnt there a command to id a cd-rom drive!!!! lol

The simplest solution is to create a file on your cd, try to think of one that would be fairly unique. Then you can still use your checklist for drives and identify the CD by the existance of the file.

that unique named file can also hold the captured environment details so it only performs a systems environment suite of functions once and reads the file forever more

You will want to make sure that it still looks if cd is not found in the place it was first found. Otherwise when people add/remove drives / put the disc in the other cd drive it won't find the cd.

You also might want to make it so people with massive hard drives can copy the whole cd to disk.

Perhaps you can find something in the windows register and get the valid drive from there

It'll be easier (although not better) to scan all drives and look for their type (hard drive/CD drive etc). My GetResource plug-in can return the information required for that.

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

LOL you mean like the windows install disk?, every time I get asked for the disk it has to be put in the same drive I installed from or it can`t find the file it wants, thats ok most of the time, but sometimes the installer won`t let you or has not the option to change the drive, most annoying, but thats Micro$oft for you, it`s not working right before you even get it installed .
