I didn't watch the video, but the comment from the author made me curious if torrentspy actually is allowing people to download the full version of FPSC... so I went to their site and ran a search.

This is what I got from them:

Quote: "Sorry, but because you are located in the USA you cannot use the search features of the Torrentspy.com website.Torrentspy's decision to stop accepting US visitors was NOT compelled by any Court but rather an uncertain legal climate in the US regarding user privacy and an apparent tension between US and European Union privacy laws."

Sounds to me like SOMEone is trying to hide something!

I posted on a video with similar comments a while back, and it was removed by the poster the next day. I also flagged it as dangerous.

Well, considering TGC is a europe-based company, they are in the clear to go ahead and sue these guys if they don't stop hosting such software. The website is obviously europe based, so it's not like they can deny people from europe access to site, too.

I say that TGC should sue them. They could use the extra money to pay Lee to make even more updates to FPSC! (Hah, just joking, Lee. You're already doing a bang-up job. )

Not joking about sueing them, though.

It's not that easy, ply. Piracy is very wide-spread, and to take down everyone seeding TGC's stuff would take a long time. And it wouldn't be possible to sue them. As far as I know, it's against those peoples privacy to locate them/their IP. They could report them to their ISP's, but that'd be all they could do.

At least that's how things appearently work here in Sweden.
I mean, I understand people that are tired for paying loads for music a little, especially when it's not that costy to produce. A single album costs approx. 25 bucks over here. But pirating cheap software that so much effort has gone into? Seriously, what the heck...

In sweden we have a very famous site wich I wont mention because I dont want people to find use of it (I have never downloaded or even thought of download something from the site, jsut read newspapers).
The swedish police made a razzia aginst the sites servers and they disapeared for a couple of days. Then they put their servers in several ambasades were the swedish police cant do anything, so now thay just can sit and watch when the site spread out all kind of things (even FPSC).
Thats really bad, I dont know why people would do such things.

On topic, I have posted a comment to the video to. Its a shame I cant make a tumb down on the authors post

Have a good evening!

This was covered a while back.Several files were posted a pirates' sites. It turned out someone else was using the names of members to post stuff and it was not the members themselves.
I am going to check this out.
A note...Qwartje,
You should be aware that swearing is against the AUP.I'll change the title of this thread and you get a warning.
I understand you guys are upset but getting crazy isn't going to help.
If you suspect piracy of TGC's products the best thing you can do is e-mail Rick Vanner. If he is not made aware of these things then they will not be resolved.
I am looking into this right now.

Edit:
I just checked out out.Does anybody know who this actually is or if it is a forum member or what?I'm not a mod on YouTube so unless I find out who it is/what their forum name is I can't do anything.

Strangely enough... the dude put his name, his friend's name, and another friend's name as tags to one of his videos... the one where they are destroying a Nintendo DS.

Quote: "

Heres a a NDS kindly donated to us to destroy by Callum Mulligan who requested this video to be made after his brother poured maple syrup down the ds cartridge slot! hope you like it! (less)

Is this against the AUP to post this kinda thing when it's plainly available to everyone on youtube?

Whatever.

Did some more digging, apparently this guy also goes by the name of "norman399"... did a google, and the first result came up as his activites on torrent.com. Apparently, he's also attempted pirating Adobe After Effects 7 PRO.

I read an article about Piratebay and similar sites, it seems if they get legal action against them, they will find another loophole. Move their servers and some other sneaky tricks.

I appreciate people on IM servers and email telling me I'm being smeared.

I have no idea who this "locrain" guy is but anyone that knows me, knows I would never post pirated gear. Matter a fact...any one that I'm their very own would know I use my FPSC purchases as drink coasters: ala this thread http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=119429&b=33

Do I need to post a new picture with the same desk and my new lcd monitor to prove?

Nawwww....I don't really care about the people that would believe that anyways.....

PS: Thanks for the alerts guys.

Two things...
Loc,
You know I know the score.Someone did the same thing to me and some other members a while back.Whether people like you are not they know who you are and where you stand.
I do recognize one of the names on one of the people in one of those shots.I can do something about that.I will do what I can.
If the guy who posted this is not a forum member then there's nothing I can do.It is nice that I caught one pirate while looking for another. It would be nice if they all rode in the same boat.

It's always good to see you around Locrian, whatever the circumstances.
We all know about the great 'using member's names scam' to upload pirate gear just to try and give you folks a bad name, and it was back when some folks had a certain chip on their shoulder's. Sorry that its still haunting you, anyone around long enough know's this had nothing to do with you and I for one miss ya.

True. and the fact that most torrents have more than one tracker its almost impossible to shut down ALL the torrent..

I mean. if every torrent has 5 trackers (hosts) And there are 20 torrents there would be 100 of servers to shut down.. also most servers seed with variable IP's so its untrackeble..

How I Know This?
I Used to use torrents my self for quite some time but then i got a job and figured things were worth my money^^

Awesome pic, Loc.

I had thought that I was the only one who used their FPSC box for that purpose.

As for pirating... I know it's impossible to stop them all, but guess what! I still love it when I can stop a single juicy one.

Ok, so here's the problem with prosecuting torrent sites.

The majority of torrent sites are hosted in Sweden, Germany, and Russia. These countries have very loose intellectual property laws that allow peer-to-peer hosting sites to pass under the radar because these sites do not actually host any of the files offered, they simply offer gateways to personal pc's hosting the files.

Thus, in order to effectively shut down a torrent, you must shut down EVERY seed (person providing the file). Sometimes this number can amount in the thousands.

Therefore, it could take days to shut down ONE torrent, much less all of them.

To make matters worse, if a person or corporation in a country with more strict intellectual property laws wishes to prosecute any of these sites, then the intellectual property laws of the country hosting the site apply, making it nearly impossible to get a conviction without hard data stored on the torrent provider's server.
