Hello there. My name is Tim, and I'm new here. I'm working with a friend of mine (Cinshe) and we're trying to get our game to work. Basically, all I have done is modeled and boned an object in Modeler, opened it in Layout, moved the bones around in a way that the model would look as though it were walking, and used Dstorm's Lightwave Direct X Exporter to export it. It's in Text (Not Binary), and I cannot seem to get it to work. I can't even see the models with the viewer on my computer, but Cinshe can. He can even see the model in DarkBASIC when we run the game. But, the animation doesn't play at all, and certain parts of the model are completely see through (Despite being double sided). Does anyone know how to either get this working, or if there are any other direct x exporters for Layout?

Thank ye kindly,
~Tim

Ok. So, now I can actually see everything. Found out that you can't use subdivided objects for .x files.

ANYWHOO.

I have tried.... everything I can think of, and the model still won't move. It looks pretty, it's all smooth, but... animation.

Don't have lightwave, so couldn't really say for sure, but if there are options for exporting make sure you have the option to export the animations with it.

Another alternative, and I've had to do this more than a few times, is export to a different format for a different package such as Milkshape. Then use Milkshape's DirectX exporter.

I do have the option to export the animations, and I've been using it. No matter what though, it still won't save the animation of the object, just the object itself.

Ok. So the object slides along the ground towards the player now (The object is a zombie, by the way) but it doesn't play its animation. Here is what it looks like when I export it:

I just put the urls in, didn't want to slow down the page.

Alright. I tried the Milkshape trick, but I can't import my file into the program. So, I'm stuck there. I believe I'm going to try and find some sort of Lightwave support forum.

Light wave does not have an .x exporter that works for animation. The exporter that you have makes the claim that it exports .x animation, but it does not. (actually, it doesn't export bone animation)

You must use a different program to export.

Alrighty. Well, It's good to know that someone responded, and knows what they're talking about.

Thank you.

I have been using the DirectX exporter for Lightwave and it works to the point where I can export animations in DirectX format and load it into a DirectX 9 framework.

I'm new to this, but I assume this would also work in the Game Creator programs as well yes? Anyway I'll be doing some tests to confirm over the weekend and I'll provide a pipeline unless one exists already?

You can save animations from lightwave to .x format using Digital Storms plugin.

Make sure that you are saving Text (as you are), make sure that textures are divisable by 256, make sure that you tick "Export Animations"

it worked for a model I made, which was admittedly only rotating on the y axis, but it did export the timeline.

from what i've seen, if it soesn't show in the viewer program, it won't show in DBPro.

forgot to mention, it also worked with another model of a flag I made, which uses bones to "flap about"
