Ah Ive been busy this month programming the sequal to qmusic vr 2.0

Alot are probly asking....where is version 1? lol
I felt it wasnt good enough for actual release.

Anyways a screen shot and a few new features that are very exciting.

The first thing that is very different is each note can represent so many different things independently.

1) Every note thats being drawn can bounce back and forth ...speaker to speaker.
2) Every single note has independent volume control.
3) There is a new addition to the green and red notes. The Ability to do sound modulation. It Sounds Excelent...
4) The editor is like paint brush just draw like mad...lol
5) There is now 6 instrument tracks.
6) There is now alot more notes to compose your music... now @24 notes (vr2.0 has 10)
7) When making an instrument file it now only asks for two wav files. One being a normal sounding note and second being a modulated sound of the same note.
8) Very small file sizes compaired to vr2.0. Version 2 was around 1-5 mega bytes for a song file. Just by looking at the size of my new instrument files. I can tell these files are now going to range from 500 k bytes to 2 megs max.... and thats being generous.

This is the update so far...
here is the screen shot------------------------>

Cool.

This will be useful for anyone on a budget of zero. Sequencers don't come cheap.

I did noticed a small typo. independent.

You're making good progress on this. I'm sure you can try again with your contest later when Qmusic has evolved enough to gain great popularity and possibilities. Which i bet it will if you keep going like this.

Keep it up.

thanks
I just got the save and load file working

The file is a little bigger then i hoped but it sounds way better.
The size gets bigger the more drum sounds you use. The other instruments use hardly any space at all.

here is a quick sample of how the drums sound with the piano

Also just a 16 note repeat

i was playing with the recording and put some piano in after the start.

download wav file

sounds neat too....lol

Oh ...yiks! Sorry for not compressing that better....lol

Anyways Here is the update:

Save/load works
cut/paste tool now works with a quick glitch i need to fix on it first.

last of all:
I need to see about merging the old v2 songs into this one. Since the instrument structure is alot different this may be a difficult task. But at least i should be able to import the notes...just not the instruments.

Anyways the first release is very near

Ok here is the beta test How exciting !

Ok so to use this here are the instructions:

you need a 3 mouse button with a scroll down wheel
For those that dont know....the wheel is the 3rd mouse button..(it also clicks down)

by scrolling the wheel up and down sets what edit mode you are in.
red notes are looping
green notes are restart notes
darkred are modulated looping notes
darkgreen are modulated restart notes

to draw modulated notes change from stereo to modulated.

to change track your editing ....select the one you want.

copy/paste tool:

You notice when using the mouse wheel you come up with a dot with scissors.
left mouseclick is to select notes
rightmouseclick will paste it
(paste 2 times in the same spot will errase your paste)

when you are in the other edit modes you can:
Draw notes/errase notes and when you press the wheel button down it repositions the start playing note.

When the song is playing you can freely edit notes: Fast forward and go backwards if you hold that wheel button down. (only if the edit mode is not the paste/cut)

thats it any questions post them !

glitches too

Click on Help in the menu bar and see if it opens a webpage looking window. If it doesnt you need to redownload.

The help system is not up yet but will be shortly
For now you should just get a window that says webpage not found.

Sweet! Much improved from v2. Vista users beware, you need mfc71.dll for this to work. Download from my post, place in system folder.

Ok, I have a problem, I can't make an instrument file. I load in the two sounds, and when I try to load the file into QM, it crashes. Also, what happened to the music recorder that was in v2?

Ok, here is my first peice with your program, it's pretty simple. I had an mp3, but it sounded terrible, so just load this into QM.

The instrument file you tried to make needs to be compatible with everything else

first:
The sound file should be around 5 seconds long.

pcm 22.050khz, 16 bit, mono

Its easy to convert your sounds this way with sound recorder.
Also to get it to sound right
The notes recorded by me are c3 Normal...(Note c octave 3).

Also the sound recording i had in v2 is obsolite. Its only mono and it sucks.. But if you want it back in i can take a few mins to program it in.

This is a beta test not the final release.

Ive noticed one glitch with copy and paste that will be fixed shortly

"Satchmo"
Im wondering ... i just noticed in your song that the peices you wrote didnt line up with the drawing bars. Would it be better to do something other than 16 note spacing? Let me know
And im looking forward to hearing more music that you make with the editor

My new darkbasic include file will be loaded with functions soo if you program in dbpro you wont need to record to any other format.

The impact speed of processing the notes is next to nul.

Sounds nice.

About the note spacing. I think it would be nice if it could be set, say to a personal preference.

Ah a very sweet update:

I found someone by the user name chunks chunks and he has created a dll that will record stereo and whatever bit rate you set

With his permission id like to code that recorder in to v3 right away

This will overtake the old record mono over from v2 and do it in stereo and save as wav file

Excellent! Version 3 is now finished .

I added the recorder application that chunkschunks has provided me and it records stereo

You still need to set up your sound card to stereo mix for recording. Also you will need all your volume controls at a higher level to record it louder.....at least in vista.

I added one new feature to the record menu.

It is marked INCsp. (..i think) lol
Anyways every loop your recording makes it can increase the tempo.

here is a quick wav file demo

i like your mario song

Oh! and i added a specail thanks to you in the online help section

A darkbasic pro include file will be developed and released soon....This will be altimatly the best way to play the songs in you basic programs ...With no quality lost and does not take much to process...

It shouldn't impact on your frame rate at all. And it doesnt matter what frame rate you set to. It will still play the same speed.

One exception to that rule is as long as you dont dip below 30 fps..eg(20,10)

Most people program with it set to 60.

Some ideas for the include file:

1. Load multiple songs in memory
2. smooth song switching/loading
3. Vairiable play back speed that can be modified anytime
4. play/stop/resume/merge comands

- any requests -
please post them

Programmatic Track Volume Controls. Think of how some big title games work... there may be a soft sounding strings loop... melodic... then as you near a "hot spot" Drums out of no where start playing in time with the violins etc... get even closer to the hto spot - now some electric guitar comes in ... maybe the violins are either silenced or brought down lower.

Then you kill the bad guy.. then .. in time... the Win "melody" (in time with drums) becomes audible.. then after it plys the music resumes back to drum fading out, guitar gone, strings become the norm... the loop continues...

...until you hit another trigger that starts a whole new "music piece" for the next wave of stuff

hi ive found a couple of things that might be of use for your project .

i dont know how you do your timing, but theres a dll which ticks bpm`s regardless of sync rate .

also a midi plugin for extra instruments..

oh thats cool...

Right now the sync rate is set to 0 so the computer will run as fast as it can. Then it uses clock cycle time in milliseconds.

255 gets times by 2 and if the timer>tempo*2 then it plays next note. Also the time that timer went over gets subtracted for the next wait time.

It seems to work well. I did notice my song does not stay at speed if i dip the fps below 30fps.

most people program at 60+ anyways so it should all be good

ill check that download out. Thanks

something new to add:

I have set it up to merge old v2 songs into v3 now with it sounding
at least close to the original.

Your songs you have created in v3 soo far will be 2 notes higher then usual.
Easy to edit and fix them all. (cut/paste will do the trick)

Also im adding a new password encription method to saving your song that way nobody else could use your music in your dark basic application/game.

And the new darkbasic include file will ask for your encription key that you used to save your song then load it...else fail if
you provide the wrong key that you saved it as.

This update and include file will be out shortly this week.

ok here is the updated version of qmusic v3 with encription support

Instructions:
If you use the encription do not use zero in any of the nine key places.

and make sure you write your number down if you are going to keep changing it. The editor will remember the last key entered.

thats it enjoy
Any feed back welcome....
Also the include file will be released shortly this week taking advantage of the encription key process.

Dang! Big glitch found...lol

This ones a big one. It appears that when the songs are being saved they dont save the corisponding drum sets to what you were using.

I noticed this glitch when i started writting the include file for dark basic.

So this is what i have done. You will have to redownload the editor that has the saved patch. Then you will need to reload all your music. Hit the reset drum instruments check box and save your songs again.

If you dont you will realize that your song plays with different drums then you originaly composed.

Let me update the server in the next while and i will post again when the include file and the editor is ready.

Sorry guys
I should have done more testing to make sure the files were saving properly.

**if you do not have the editor with a reset button for drums then you havent got the patched version**
download that in my next post when im done...

Ok all is fixed and well

and the include file is also in this download

feel free to add commands or try to break the encription i programed in...lol

It probly is not that hard to break since you can study it looking
at my include file...lol

anyways...have fun

report any more glitches found and post any questions or features
you want added in.

I have just started programing v4 with real midi.....this app is gunna kick some #@$#@$# !!
lol

i will post it as soon as i can get a screen shot in its own thread.

this editor will have every note available from your sound card.

file sizes will be smaller then the typical midi size.
i bet less then 500k for a big big song

no more need for creating instruments.....but i may leave wav playable in 1 track to make it even better

we'll see!

anyways v3 is discontinued and v4 will be on its way shortly and
yup! for free !!

You're doing excellent.

I have a suggestion.

How about allowing the user to select what kind of tracks they want to have. Wave, Midi, Maybe even your old way v1,2,3. ??

Just a thought. That's how MusicCreator, CakeWalk Studio, and other vendors do it. Consider it - just food for thought.

A few wav tracks could be good for voice over, sound effects (when midi won't do), singing, rapping, gun shots... even live music.. (I play guitar, and laying down a digi track of some real guitar is a blast!) (I bet any other instrument for that matter).

Regardless - you are doing some cool stuff man! Good Job!
