What is Aspectus?
Aspectus is a storyboarding program that takes a unique approach to storyboarding. Rather than using only traditional 2D sketches, Aspectus allows you to use 2D images AND 3d models. You are then able to export these images as .JPG. Furthermore, you can import your own .DBO, .X, and .3DS objects to use.

What can I use Aspectus for?
Aspectus, being a storyboarding program can obviously be used in the production of movies / short films. Also, you can use it to plan out cinematic and the like. Lastly, Aspectus makes for a good object loader, viewer, and manipulator so it could be useful for pre-programming planning.

Cool, but why would I want to use 3D models, isn't that just more work to make them?
Well no...take a look at the obvious advantages. Firstly, 3D objects can be moved and manipulated - you never have to redraw anything just from a different angle. Also, 3D Objects make things such as lighting extremely easy, in fact, you can basically clone the area where you will be filming in 3D and then experiment with how different types of lighting will work.

But I'm don't want/not able to model! What can I do?
Fear not! This is exactly what Aspectus was designed for. Aspectus is designed to use models from the 3D Warehouse (Google's 100% free model library). Because 3D Warehouse is filled with thousands of free models of virtually everything and anything, finding the models you need is easy and fast. Also, if you are using Aspectus for planning cinematic for your game, these 3D Warehouse make excellent place holders before you actually have to model that 8000 poly object.

Wait...why wouldn't I use something professional...like :
http://www.powerproduction.com/quick/example/quickmov2.html

Well you could...but take a look at the price. Aspectus will most be inexpensive when it is finished. Also, take a look at that demo video and try the Aspectus Demo...look similar? Yes, indeed that only thing that software has and Aspectus doesn't is a fancy interface and much more models and objects to load. Of course objects for Aspectus will be added periodically.

Thanks!
Thanks to Minstrel as I applied parts of his code from the code snippets board in this project. I also used the general style in coding the interface.

Also, so much thanks to TDK for the amount of time he spent helping me apply his GUI functions to my code (thanks for his functions as well )

NEWS
-Brand New Video with new interface and features display. As well as the digital viewer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KKDNd4cxFM

-Import Add-On "Inverto" is now complete
-A New Menu + Point and click selection has been added! See video.
-A nice interface has been added. See images.
-DEMO NOW RELEASED
-Aspectus will feature 2 separate mini apps. The main program (a demo is now available) as well as a viewer program which is also in development.

Controls:
Right now, in the demo, the app has no HUD. This is simply to keep it nice, simple, and clean right now. Simply right click anywhere to display the expandable menu. Its fairly self explanatory, the "Setup" sub menu is used to move the camera. "Object" is used to move objects as well as load objects. Click 'load current' to load the object corresponding with the current object number (display at the top right hand corner). This number can be changed in the "Object" submenu as well. Click on "Help" to view a complete list of objects and their corresponding number. Lastly, click "Shot" to take a storyboard shot of 1 of the current photo zone. (Note photo zone by default covers the entire screen and can be changed under the "View" submenu). Lastly, note that the "View" submenu has only one working feature in this demo and that is the 'Photozone On' feature used to change the photozone. That's pretty much it for an extremely quick 'How-To' of the demo. Experiment and Enjoy! Any helpful comments or and criticism is more than welcome.

I like the idea.I made a similar program, so that I could make sprite animations.

Don't know if you have looked at the "Enhanced Animation" plugin yet, but you should. It would definitely help you with keyframes and such.

Update^^

Now I know it doesn't look like much, in fact, I took of the HUD a because it was quite buggy and the icons looked ugly imo. I'm going to replace it soon. In the mean time though, I fixed a lot of bugs and the whole thing now runs much smoother. A demo will be released this weekend

Wow, I wish this was released when I was doing my IT coursework. This would have helped a lot. So basically you create scenes in this and use them for the storyboards for you games?

Thanks! And yes, the 3D Warehouse idea will defiantly be useful for a lot of people. 3D Warehouse has thousands of models of pretty much everything and anything that are just waiting to be used in a Darkbasic app!

Update!

Aspectus now includes a cool new menu, point+click to select objects (this, as those who tried the demo know, was not in the previous version), and various other features. Check out the video!

Sorry about the length of the song compared the the video though. Oh well, I guess if you really like the song you wont mind a black screen

Alrighty, another update. I've actually made a storyboard using Aspectus. This is to show what Aspectus is actually currently capable of doing. I also used Mac Os X's Comic Life to print and layout everything (seeing as Aspectus does not yet have print capabilities).
.Pdf file attached! Please take a look.

UPDATE!

The object converter is finished! It will convert ANY sketchup model into a .DBO model which can be used in Aspectus. Screenshots below!

Also, I would really appreciate comments/suggestions/criticism! I've got almost 600 views but hardly any comments even though there is a demo of Aspectus available. Unfortunately, I won't be a releasing a demo of this converting add-on before I get news of a publishing deal

Thanks
