My WIP for my Final 3D Project - a game asset, be it a weapon, vehicle, or building (I guess mine qualifies as all three? heh) for a next-gen game. The final version will have a single 1024x768 32bit (yes, it will have alpha) .tga for the tower itself, and a single 1024x768 .tga for any supporting elements (ie. a landscape). Each texture will also have specular and normal maps.

Here is the mesh as of now... still redoing a few things... I plan on re-using most of the geometry in order to maximize texture space. Here I have only started cloning the spices used in the railings and such. Still have an awful lot of work to do! I'm really looking forward to a finished object for my portfolio, however I'll make sure to keep everyone updated!

Tools I'll be using...
Maya 2008 x64bit (64bit is evil)
Adobe Photoshop CS3
Autodesk Mudbox (possibly..)
CrazyBump

Updates coming soon!

Very good model John...Looks like someone knows where the Warhammer fantasy catalogs are kept what color themes are you planning for this model? when you go to chose the colors keep in mind that orcs are humanoid but are not humanoid at the same time.. orcs are made from an organic matter that resembles moss and actually breed by sending spores to infest the their surroundings. With this being said I would use as many colors of moss as possibly to dirty this up. Also orcs judge wealth by the sheers size and amount of teeth they posses, it doesn't matter if they are claiming their teeth or showing off the teeth of another orc they bashed to get them.

I am looking forward to the textured version. Also keep in mind that orcs use what ever is laying around to construct any structures that they may use in battle (since orcs live to kill)

Update... some screens... yeah its shiny, the diffuse is a blinn for when I finish up the bump mapping tomorrow- but for now its just shiny, heh

To-Do
Texture little blue shield on the front, or just nix it.
Specular Mapping
Normal Mapping
Alpha maps for the roof/small flag in front

Open GL Shot

Mental Ray Shots

This is due tuesday so expect finish shots soon

EDIT - MEH! Forgot the white BG of mental ray would render as transparent as PNG's... oh well Yeah... all textures are 100% hand made by the way

I think he will take the reflective surface off for the final piece. It's "mental ray - ATTACK" render at the moment lol.

Looking good John. Hows's the RPG coming along? Was it eternal lands? lol, I haven't heard hoot about it in ages!

Funny side note - Isn't it cool how some of us guys who came in here as noobs yeeears ago, are now doing degree's in the games field? You, myself, and Jess T are all doing them, and I'm sure there are more. It is cool.

regards,
Greenlig

l2READ POST NOOB! Heh, just kidding. Yeah... its a blinn with no specular/normal mapping yet, dont worry, it wont look like the orcs found some wood polish and went to town when its finished

@Greenlig - Heh yeah, funny how it works out like that isnt it Was called Eternal Destiny and I havent touched it in ages... however I'm thinking about picking it back up this summer now that I can do all of my own artwork

Thanks for the comments, I'll upload a finished version tonight.

Just in the OpenGL viewport with adv. lighting on to see the bump/specular mapping... although its really too far zoomed out to see much. I'll probably upload a little turnaround.avi later this week if anyone is interested.

This is really beautiful, but I have to agree with Roxas about the roof looking a little odd.

Perhaps you could make it look less like a single piece of red cloth and more like a tattered makeshift roof made from several old pieces of cloth they just had laying about. They dyed them all red with the blood of their enemies, but due to the non-congruent original colors the different pieces sewn tgether could have different brightness and saturation.

Whether you make any changes to the roof or not, it's very nice as is.

EDIT: Something about the bump-mapping makes it almost look like some the wood has been polished, particularly on the lower regions. I'm not sure what you could do about it, but I just figured I'd add that in.

Ehh I dont know, whatever I can find I'll probably end up waiting tables at a restaurant or something, while doing freelance artwork / webdesign on the side for some extra cash.
