I wasn't going to post this but seeing that there has been quite a large amount of people wanting to use FPSC with a joystick I decided to post this.

Many people that ask how to use FPSC with a controller almost always get the response to use Joy2Key. Well folks I have found something much simpler, very much less complex and more time sufficient.

http://xpadder.com/

It is so easy even I was able to figure out how to do it without having to read something.

When you start up XPadder it will have you click each button on your controller.
http://xpadder.com/controllers.html
Before you assign each button download one of these controllers they will help you very much when assigning the keys.

I hope this alternative to Joy2Key helps.

Ya it is. It's so easy to use and it doesn't slow down your computer at all.

Here's something to think about which may be not so awesome...remember that function that was incorporated into FPSC called scancodekeypressed?
That is going to play havoc with your joystick/pad.There is probably no way to keymap all of the FPSC functions to a joypad or stick as it is and when people add on to them and they are custom keys for their game then the fun is really going to begin.

Actually from what I've seen it works like a charm even with scancodekeypressed. You can quickly assign a button to a key within seconds. Of course it depends on the controller you are using. I myself and using a 360 controller which has more than enough buttons. People seem to forget about the D-Pad and back & start buttons.

The file stops mid-way into the download and says it's done. So, thinking I'm lucky not to wait any longer, I try it and the driver won't do anything because it says it's corrupt. So, if anyone can get it to work, please upload it here, cause the one there is corrupt.

Hmmm the download works fine for me. I would upload it here but I don't know if I'm allowed to. I'm looking for their license. I'll edit this post when I find out if I can or not.

Sorry I can't find anything about it. When I look up the license it just says freeware. Mods would it be ok if I posted a download to it?

Glad someone found a use for it. It's a great program. It works so good. I use it for basically everything now. I have it laid out to where I use the actual FPSC engine to design stuff. And I even play my 19 twinks on World of Warcraft with it lol.

You can use any joystick/controller that Windows can read.

http://xpadder.com/controllers.html

There is a ton of images of controllers there. Each one of those controllers will work on your computer I believe otherwise they wouldn't have the picture. And there might be even more controllers that you can use.

Well the one MAJOR problem with this is, you have to have a wired controller. The charge and play kit supposedly doesn't work with Xpadder. So wired controllers only.

I'm not sure at all what you're trying to say. There is nothing complicated about this program. All you do is plug your controller in your pc. That's it. There are no work arounds. It's straight forward. If you can't plug your controller in directly to your pc you can't use this.

I believe for a ps2 controller you have to get some kind of adapter to plug it into your pc.

You can plug the guitar controller from PS2 Rock Band into a USB slot on your pc.Whater you can get it to work or not is anybody's guess.
The GH controllers work through the controller ports on the PS2 so you would have to splice the guitar controller with a USB cable to plug it into your pc...assuming you have an extra USB cable and a spare guitar controller to tear up.
I would assume you don't (I have two guitars...the Kramer from Guitar Hero 3 and the Fender Strat that comes with Rock Band and I would not consider either a "spare parts" guitar) so if you have a few extra bucks (Probably less than the GH controller and the cable you destroyed) you can probably pick up a used Rock Band controller and plug it into your pc.
That would be my recommendation.

[hint] Not that this has anything to do with FPSC and it is totally off-topic but as long as you brought it up... [/hint]

That's why I was debating to myself whether or not I should post this but there were enough people wondering how to do it I decided to post this.
