I'm at that poing in development where I need lots of models and much of it I'm going to have to model myself.

Now I can build a building, and make it look ok. (fake and crappy but ok)

I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that the various problems I've been running into are related to texture mapping. Up to this point I've just slapped any old texture onto a wall, or door, or whatever and called it good. Obviously, that isn't really going to do it.

So, are there any tutorials out there on how to create color, diffuse, normal, and any other texturing maps I might need?

I have a fair collection of programs to use. Paint Shop Pro 7, gameSpace1.6, trueSpace7.5, MilkShape, Blender, and 3D World Studio are just a few of the more well known ones.

do you have GIMP?
There is a normal map plugin for that.
Its really really simple to use and free.
Its how I make my normal maps.

Confusing as hell, but an interesting tool.

I could buy a $79 video course at www.caligari.com. It's in the Masters Series collection and has a section on UV, but I'm afraid that they wont go into enough detail to make it worth it. Like many things they can't teach it all to you, and invariably they leave something out that's crucial to getting the results you want.

I may do that anyway, but wanted to see if anyone knew of some good texturing tutorials, or maybe tell me if I'm doing this right or totally wrong.

Should I even be messing with trying to UV Unwrap my building models? or are UV maps best saved for things like Character models?

Just kidding mate, I personally do not know of that many tutorials but you could see if a search engine gives you more results And there are some links in the "Great 3D Resource" sticky at top
