A few spikes i made with five ( i think) versions/ different textures... in the editor they are a bunch made into one entity... the model is 310 polys

nice, i suggest you make the spikes loads thinner

Whoa wait right there! 310 polys man you need to lower that.
Oh and it looks like you used cones yes they are good with spikes but they look thick hence Ocho Geek's remark.

here is a set of pillars i made also... screen:i think the marble pillar is te best an each is 30 polys

nicer polycount on them

a bit of decoration never goes amiss, blender has some really simple boolean tools not sure what you use though
