I am new to this but believe I followed the tutorial instructions. I have burned to the CD the Files folder, the executable, the setup.ini, and the user details.ini as described in the tutorial. The game will not run from the CD, using the same computer that created the game. The game starts to load and I get the following error:
Runtime Error 506 - Could not load image at line 11040

Your help is very much appreciated.

You answered your own question. The game will not run from the CD. It must be installed on the hard drive. You can copy the contents onto the hard drive, or use an installer that does it for you, but it must be on the hard drive.

The game folder contains archived files (zip files) which must be extracted at run time. They cannot be extracted on a CD.

Best.

Thanks for the help. I tried what Xplosys said and it did not run on a dell laptop running Vista. I downloaded DirectX9 to the laptop and it still did not run. Any reason it should not run on a Vista system?
5867DUDE, I put the entire folder on the CD and then copied it along with the other files to the laptop hard drive.
Any other thoughts? Thanks in advance.

JSA,

You're going to have to be much more descriptive than that. "It still did not run" doesn't tell us anything. We can't see what you see.

What are the specs of the laptop?
Does the graphics adapter meet the minimum system requirements for FPSC or is it integrated Intel graphics?
Was there an error message?
Did you get a blank screen and nothing else?
Was it a permissions or security message?

Best.

XPLOSYS,

The error message I got was:
runtime error 506 could not load image at line 1140

The laptop has an intel core 2 duo t7500 processor 800Mhz FSB, 4Mb cache, 3GB DDR2 SDRAM, The video card is a 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M

When I run the .exe file, the screen goes blank like it going to load and then I get the error message listed above

Thanks again!

FPSC cannot read compressed files (AKA on a cd) make a installer or put it all into a .zip or .rar file. It will work then.

lets put it this way... ONCE FPSC IS ON A CD< IT WILL NEVER RUN AGAIN.

vista works fine, there is no reason to not to use vista and FPSC

Very incorrect, you still need to install the latest DX9 on Vista, over the top of DX10.

Because you can't run it off a CD?

Quote: "FPSC cannot read compressed files (AKA on a cd)"

Files on a CD aren't compressed, and besides the way that they are stored is completely transparent to the application. I think the problem is that FPSC probably tries to write some data in the game's directory when it runs, and obviously this is not possible on a CD. This isn't exactly consistent with the error, though it may be related to it.

I am not trying to run it from the CD. I copied it to a CD, then loaded the CD on the Vista laptop, then copied the files to the hard drive. Sorry I was not clear in the earlier post.

Get the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable. It should fix everything.

Vista is dx10? Lol very wrong. You need a directx10 card to have dx10. Otherwise Vista is x9

Sarge, Vista will never run on x9. I had no problems on CD transport of an FPSC-Game.

Suggestion:

using winrar/winzip make a self extracting zip archive out of all the files.

Then, create a file called autorun.inf and place this in it:

copy this and the self extracting archive to cd's root directory. Upon inserting the disk, the installer will pop up. Alternatively, use a proper installer program.

Not if it is copy/pasted because of the Zip files in the built games, but it does work if you do it right.

Quote: "I am not trying to run it from the CD. I copied it to a CD, then loaded the CD on the Vista laptop, then copied the files to the hard drive. Sorry I was not clear in the earlier post. "

Zip files get corrupted when saved as a disc image (burning to cd).
You need to compress the files into an EXE via an installer program, and then burn the installer EXE (the files) to disc.
Then let the installer extract the files to the user's hard drive and it all works fine.

Vista runs DirectX9 and DirectX10 on my machine just fine.

Quote: "Alternatively, use a proper installer program. "

That is all you need; a proper installer program, like InstallCreator.
