EDIT - New model at bottom of page

Hey guys.

I'm going to be posting the work in progress models here for my Uni project. We have to design a game, and get it to a presentation stage, where we can basically pitch the game, and have it designed. We don't need to have a finished game, but we do need to have it fully designed.

My project is a battle game with shopping trolleys. I work as a trolley pusher, so I know the content pretty well

My first model is one of the characters, Manix. His little blurb -

1.Manix – A young boy raised by lowlife scum, Manix knows shopping trolleys from years of sleeping in them. He grew up in the harsh conditions of a highway Underpass, furtively scrounging for food in dumpsters. He is smart, nimble, and quick.
- Speed = +1
- Strength = +0
- Turn = +1
- Theme music – sharp, yet grungy. Accentuate his bogan roots.

There is another player I will be developing next week, Hilda.

For now, I will post the images of Manix I have so far.

He is about 80% done I'd say. The textures need cleaning up, and the geometry could use a few little updates here and there, but for the most part, he is nearing a finished state.

C&C welcome.

Regards,
greenlig

my only comment is the neck looks too parallel, apart from that, great!

Hessiess - Parallel? Please explain If you mean it doesn't really look like it moves, that's more a pose problem rather than an armature issue. I do have an extra bone in the neck, but didn't move it in those shots.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Here's a wireframe or two... I haven't put face bones in yet. Sorry about the quality. Blender's wireframe method doesn't always show up the lines. Strange and evident

Hessiess: You do know he most probably wants it to be a cartoony approach?

I will experiment with the neck, but as deathhead mentioned, it is stylised for a reason. Everything is out of proportion...but thanks for pointing it out. I'll have a fiddle with that.

This image is pretty much me at work lol.

Righteo...I have modelled "Hilda", the next character for Trolley Wars. Here is her little spiel -

Hilda – A simple witted, yet unusually strong girl, Hilda left school after failing grade 3 twice, to make a career from breaking bricks with her forehead. Having failed that at the tender age of 13, she is now pushing trolleys for a living. She is strong and capable, albeit not mentally - not someone you want to mess with!
- Speed = +0
- Strength = +2
- Turn = +0

That's her, and this is the model so far. I am still working on the textures, and some rigging issues, but for the most part, she is on the home stretch.

Model Stats -

Polys - 932
Texture - 512x512
Bones - 19

Regards,
Greenlig

haha Nice work so far, Greenlig. I like the style. And it looks like a good usage of polygons and textures.

Will you rig the mouth? In my opinion, the first character looks slightly dumb with that open mouth. Rigging the mouth also makes possible some cool animations. For example, when a character grabs an item or any other thing happens, it can jump and scream. That is a cool level of natural dynamism, in my opinion.

Keep it up. I want to see more.

Cheers.

Yeah, it's ready for rigging, so I might have to actually follow through with that and rig it.

I have a presentation on thursday for this assignment, so I need to get some animations done. I will post a link sooner or later.

Greenlig
