i want to create a scene using \"flat 3d\" or \"2d vectors\".

all objects will be simple circles or rectangles. BUT there will be hundreds of objects on screen, all moving around.

what would be the best 3d package to design my flat 3d world, animate it, and then simply play it back through dbpro? i would prefer to animate (x and y NO z) everything in a 3d package rather than having to hardcode co-ords in dbpro.

i want to create 2d vectors in flat 3d because i want to zoom and be able to maintain good qality.

Ok, I'm confused, seems to me like you just want 2d vector graphics...can't see where 3D comes in...

yes 2d vector graphics.

what i would like to do is use a 3d software package to design the whole presentation with animation, save it as .X and just play it back with db pro.

i just wanted to know if anyone has any experience doing this and what 3d packages are more suited

Well... just modify 2d planes and animate them then? You can use blender for that

Well I'm afraid 3D packages are suited for 3D work not

I think what you're looking for is a 2D vector graphics package. Possibly. Off the top of my head.

Well there is flash...
The main problem is that, at least without a plugin which i've yet to see, Dark BASIC Professional doesn't support vector graphics. Zooming on 2D or 3D is still going to cause quality loss I'm afraid. 3D objects in a flat arrangement will be easier to animate and zoom on but lossless zoom is only going to be achievable if someone writes a vector graphics system for Dark BASIC Professional. There is a plugin which allows you to play flash animation in Dark BASIC Professional I believe but I don't think you'll get the control you want.

Why not just sit down and write an editor on your own? I imagine it would be very possible to create a great, specialised editor which suits your needs, just takes some time to code it. I'm sure something like that would produce better results than a vector graphics program which isn't optimizied for DBPro.

Ok, thats fine and dandy but he'd still need to write a vector graphics engine to actually handle/render the stuff. Granted, in this case if he just wants circles and boxes it shouldn't be too hard.
