Hi,

I am not sure that this is the best forum for this type of question, but I thought I'd give it a go.

What is the best way to model interiors as well as exteriors in 3DS Max, and are there any tutorials relating to this.

For example, I want to model a subway train with an interior as well as an exterior... What is the best way to go about doing this.

Thanks,
Bozzy

I generally use the extrude tool in milkshape, and then flip the normals.

is there any tutorials on using the extrude tool for beginners in milkshape 3D? almost all of what i want to build i want both sides of the faces textured. also i used one tutorial on texturing each face different but every time i textured a single face it also textured the adjacent face. i went through the tutorial many times and that is how it always ended up.

Right, well, only one side will be visible. This is because if you turn off culling in DarkBASIC, the reverse side will automatically mirror in texture what the other side has.

If you want to texture the interior differently, you'll need to actually duplicate the model (edit/select all > edit/duplicate) then go to either face or vertex (can't remember) > reverse vertex order.

It'll double your poly count of course.

As for texturing each face, do it like a man, properly! There's guides on the 3d board for texturing.

This should really go in 3D Chat...

Are you one of those people who download 3ds max as your first modelling program thinking it will have a 'create model' button? This is really a basic modelling question, it has nothing to do with 3ds max... If you had used any other free/cheap modeller first (blender, milkshape, wings) then you would have figured this out eventually.
