I see in the sample story marker the video is split into the visual part (.AV) and the sound part (.OGG).

How do I go about splitting a say, .wmv, into these two parts?

Are their alternatives?

You can just use standard .avi files for videos...

Well, I have it linked to a .avi file and thats the problem...its not loading.

The avi is stored in

"C:\Program Files\The Game Creators\FPS Creator X10\Files\FPSC X10 Files\videobank\misc"

Also, what is the point of the three folder structures containing all the banks? I have one set of all of them here: "C:\Program Files\The Game Creators\FPS Creator X10\Files"

Another here: "C:\Program Files\The Game Creators\FPS Creator X10\Files\FPSC X10 Files"

And a third here: "C:\Users\Miles\Documents\FPSC X10 Files"

Where do I start putting stuff once I begin to add my own meshes and entities and such?

I personally use the main program folder for all my custom segments an d entities. But use the FPSC X10 Files folder in Documents for Level loading images and media like movies.

Seems to work well for me so far

Now I seem to be getting a Bug. I made a new .avi file in windows media player from some video I captured myself. As soon as I walk into the story zone the game freezes and I get the FPSC Game has encountered an error message. (Search online for answers or close the program from windows) The attached image is displayed after the editor and game close out, leaving a useless shell.

I ahve seen that error many times during my experimenting. Try using different video formats.

Make sure you go to "Documents/FPSC X10 Files/binfiles" and delete all the DBO and DBU Files before testing the new video format or it well just keep using the old.

Good luck and well be trial and error..

Just so you know if you have DivX PRO codec you can edit the main FPSC setup.ini files to record straight to DivX instead of the MSVC codec it uses by default. This will give you better video quality at a higher res. with a much smaller video file.

I record my videos at 720x480 with the latest version of DivX and have had no problems really as long as the video is longer then 1min in length that you record. (DivX well have sound issues on less videos less then 1min in length)

Good Luck

That is interesting.
I never knew that.

capturecodec=MSVC

Do I change it to

"capturecodec=DivX"[/quote]

EDIT:Alright, I changed it to capturecodec=DIVX (I got the 15 day pro trial). I also converted my .avi file to DivX and had FPSCx10 call that file. Everything worked out grand! Thank you for helping guys!

P.S. I may not be the only one with troubles playing videos, perhaps this being included in a FAQ update or being stickied until it is may help others!

I can see only one problem with this alternative video format...

Now, your users need to get DivX too, don't they?

Ahh, but DivX does have an affiliate program that is run through commision junction.
So, there may be advertising possibilities with DivX.

If you buy after the 15 day trial, are you gonna order through Squalker so he gets his 20% commision? ($4 on your $20 purhcase)
Are you an affiliate Squalker, because if not maybe you should be because I think you may have made a sale?

lol No I am not an affiliate .... Just a user myself...

but one thing I can say is it is easier to include the regular free divx codec installer in your installers if you use advanced installers software.

They make so that it is easy to add in existing installers to a new one and the end user of your game only needs DivX for playback of the in game movies. You can then just switch the setup file of your final build to MSVC codec when you publish game.

You could go a step further and add a patch with your published game for divx recording (simply patches the setup.ini file) and use the affiliate program then to get people to buy the DivX Pro codec. You could include an ad for DivX Pro on the installer disc with sample videos explaining why it makes it better etc.

That seems quite difficult. o.0

I never thought about my end user, ha. I've just been playing around figuring out what actually works and what doesn't yet. I finally got to grips on FPSC Classic when I built a new computer and put Vista on it. So I HAD to buy x10

Do you have any 'free' installers to suggest? There used to be a name of one flying around here but I don't think it supported installing stuff on the side as well, as you have pointed out.

The program called "Advanced Installer" works great and is free to use for stand alone installers. If want to do CD-ROM/DVD-ROM installers you'll need to by a license. Even then it is cheap. It has a really easy wizard interface and like I said before it well allow you to include other installers with your installations.

Example:

You make an FPSC X10 game that uses DivX video cut screens and want to make the installer.

You run the advanced installer wizard...
it ask for basic description of your program .. IE name, version # etc..

then it ask where the files are you want to install... you point to the build folder...

it well then scan all the files in the folder and ask which is the main exe.... you select it ... it well then ask if you want to create a desktop Icon... you select yes or no..

last it will ask you if want to included any other installers pick yes.... then click the browse button and find on your computer the free DIVX playback installer.... You'll notice there is a message box below... type a message explaining why they need to install divx..

now build you installer

when is done and someone runs the installer it will install your game the program files folder and create desktop icon etc... then it well display your message saying the game require the DivX codec to run and will run the DivX installer..

It really is good software and makes setting up installers a breeze...

just do search for it in google.
