I have been searching for about 3 days now on how to use my segments in fpscX10 but for some reason I keep getting (runtime error 7001 - mesh illegal at #####). I cant seem to fix this. I've looked through about 30 thread (not even kidding) and i've found no help at all. I know i'm supposed to search first and I did, but found nothing. This is how I used the Segment Editor... I took a wall mesh already in the Segment Editor and I tryed both of them, put my texture on it tryed .tga and .dds none worked. Saved it as "name.fps"...and copied all 3 files to my fpscx10 folder and put the .fps, .bin, and the .bmp image in the user folder i created inside the Segments folder. The error is attached. All help is appreciated, Thanks!

Get Signs IV..it's really worth buying that as you can instantly create segments which are placed in the correct folders, and you can change the texture quality and sound etc.

Free Segment Packs: V1-http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=124552&b=24

I see a few obvious issues with your post and I'll point 'em out right now:

1.)You MUST NOT re-use .bin files, let FPSC create new ones for you, rather then you copying and pasted. Copying a bin file is just like copying an .x file or .fpe file, you still have all that [crap] still on it.

2.).BMP files are horrible and obsolete. Not only that, but they don't work at all as textures... Use .DDS or .TGA

3.)In your screenshot, I see a Windows 98 theme (or "Windows Default", as recognized by Windows XP)... Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Vista can use that theme... So thus FPSC X10 would be null and void.

4.)Is this error in FPSC or Segment Editor?

Answer these simple question/respond to these simple statements and I'll get back to you.

Glad to help ()

Hi

Take an existing segment and copy its files into the user folder. Then convert your bmp file to either tga or dds.

Open the segment .fps and change the texture reference(s) to your texture(s). Then save.

You should download Firma segment creator. Its free but you would be unwise not to spend the $15 or whatever it is to buy Signs.

Actually, Vista will use that. I'm running Vista Ultimate and outta curiousity went and tried it out - it seems a bit different than Windows Classic on XP, but it feels rather....bland after using Aero for so long

EDIT: Well there is Standard and Classic, along with all your good ole High Contrast settings and new Vista settings. Classic and Standard don't seem much different except for the shade of gray, lol. Anyways, back on topic...

The bitmap file he's referring to is simply the thumbnail image. The .bin file is created by segment editor and should be copied over to your user segment folder in FPSC,as you have done, the texture even if wrong format or missing will not return this error you would simply get a white segment.

The error message you are getting happens when either your mesh is not in the correct path defined by the fps file or your mesh is corrupt, which is unlikely if you were able to import it into segment editor in the first place. You dont say where you are storing the mesh file before import to segment editor,or where you are putting it in FPSC.suggest you check the mesh is in correct folder.Same with your textures.

You should also delete any .dbo files in your user segment folder.
