If it possible when your game is multi player, could you set to so that players can level up. I know their are variables but I want my game to level by how much kills you have. (example: 5 kills gets you to lvl 2, 10 kills gets you to lvl 3, ETC)

"Level up" is such a vague phrase in today's market.

What do you want to have happen to the player when they "level up"? That's the question you should be asking yourself.

If you're thinking like in an RPG, there are a bunch of things that happen tot he characters when they level up. Their stats increase, they gain new skills, they learn new tactics, etc etc.

What do you want to change about the player?

If you want them to do more damage, then you'd need a source modification. If you want them to get a full health replenishment, then you may be able to script that. If you want their maximum health to increase, then you may need to sit down and think about that one for a while, but I'm sure it's possible as Coffee Grunt has already thought of a way to do it.

Pretty much, we would need more information about what it is that you're looking for.

Leveling up sounds like a fantastic idea! That would be a great way to have people play it and try and get as many kills as possible. Maybe I'll use it in a game...
Thanks

Possibly use a variable from Ply's Mod, and use different hud images to show how much XP you have...

Just a thought.

Still very vague about what you're looking for, but there are a number of ways to reward the player... open up more of the game area... increase score/health/experience/money... give access to new weapons... etc. You just need to be a little inventive and use the latest update for the new scripting and variables.

Best.

Yes, it's inclusive.

WARNING: This is a BETA version. Make sure you backup your FPS Creator folder if you have any important files/levels that you want to keep. The BETA is meant to be used/tested with NEW levels, not levels you already have created. It is a different version, and your existing levels were not created with it and therefore will not function properly.

Best.

As I've said before, it all depends on what you're wanting it to do.

I stated a few possibilities in my first post. You are, of course, not limited to those, as I'm sure there are other things that can be made possible.

Before asking us what's possible, try to come up with exactly what you want to have happen. State what you want, and THEN ask if it's possible or not.

OK...I want the levels up to be in series of 10. lvl 1 to lvl 2 would be 10 kills, lvl 2 to lvl 3 would be 20 kills and so on..Well the point of leveling up would be to unlock better weapons to pwn people with..can THIS be done?

Yes, but you can expect to be working on it for a while.

Since you're wanting to make a script for MP, you'll not only have to worry about how the script works but also doing the workaround for getting dynamic entities into MP... not to mention weapons that don't naturally spawn at the start.

Good luck! It'll be a great learning experience.

If you've never used FPSC before, then I suggest trying something a little simpler. Maybe get a basic MP game set up and working. Try out level design and whatnot. Figure out how things work and don't work.

Then after you'ev gotten used to whole idea, you may want to start looking into some scripting tutorials around the boards. They will definitally help you to get where you are hoping to be.

That's entirely up to you.

As it stands now, Mods tend to have their own little area of expertise:

Lemur Free - Multiplayer additions
efxMod - Graphical Additions (Plus implementation of AirMod V0.5)
AirMod - Weaponry additions/modifications
Plys Mod - Scripting additions (Not really specific to any area other than scripting, but does include Dual-Wielding)

It's none of my business to tell you which one is better, that's entirely up to you to decide what it is you are looking for. Aside from Mods, there's also the latest V108 update or the V109 Betas to choose from. They include new features as well, including Headshots and adjustable Jump Height. V109 also introduced a variable system. You can find a quick run-down on it's variable system in a tutorial that I wrote for it inthe scripting board.

I think, though, while you're still learning to script, to not worry too much about which Mod or version you use. I would suggest that you try some simple scripting to start out. Perhaps look up my "Complete Newb's Guide to Scripting" either in the Script board or in Nickydude's FPSC Guide. It goes into great detail on how scripts functon and how to code them. It's also the beginning of a series of tutorials that I've written. If you follow along with the tutorials that I wrote, you'll eventually get up to doing some basic AI among other things.

If you're serious about using FPSC, then learning to script is almost required for getting what you want in your game. Don't get me wrong, though, there are still some things that require source modification to do. (Mods)

I wish you the best of luck in learning to script, and if you ever run into any troubles trying to write one, you can always post up in the Scripts board about it. I check in there rather often to see if anyone needs help.

It's as easy to remove them as it is to reinstall the version you want to use instead.
