With the V2 migration and 3rd party mods on the horizon, a li'l fella like me can get lost in the explosion of information. Basically, I need to know whether I should hold out for V2 and see what mods make it into that, or whether I should go gung ho and download the lot. Problem is, the mod threads are so long that I physically can't get a definitive feature list. More importantly, will they be compatible with each other? Will we be able to mix n' match, say- airmod and lemur? Or EFX and Airmod? Or whatever. There's just so much talk about mods and migrations lately, I'm thouroughly reluctant to hit the download button.

I'm just holding out for v2, as I don't know what these third-party mods could do to my FPSC, or worse--my computer.

efxMod is using Airmod. Airmod is a modding standard for modders...

@Bloodhound:

This coming from the guy who took HOW long to get the newest V109 BETA features working on his machine?

Bugs are an inescapable result of being human. We can fix them, but we need help from the people who found them. There's nothing worse for a programmer to hear from his audience than: "It doesn't work, I got bugs." With no explanation behind the claim, there's nothing that can be done about it.

Lee will probably be mixing a number of mods into migration. He's already interested in AirMod, especially since Errant is supporting it 100%. At the moment though you could try some mods, see how you like them, or wait. It's your choice.

I'm just praying that all this crazy talk about closing the source after migration will go away so I can convince Lee it needs to stay open. So what if you can't compile it without the extra plugins? Why close it? Those who have the plugins (such as myself) can still use it! I swear, I never seem to understand you people.

I am paranoid when it comes to downloading third-party mods (models & model packs, I'm okay with) because I don't want to get the blue screen of death and loose a lot of work (as this is the family's computer; I'll get my own sometime in June).

I'm pretty sure everyone here is using EFX or Airmod, so what's there to worry about?

Wot me worry?

Oh, please. The ONLY time you should have to worry about the BSoD is if you're programming, or surfing porn sites.

The people who make the mods thoroughly test them time and again and find out if such things could happen. As it stands, I have NEVER had a DBP program give me the BSoD. I don't think I could get DBP to give me the BSoD even if I tried.

Do you even know what the BSoD does to your computer? It causes an automatic shutdown. Nothing more. It doesn't delete files, it doesn't cause file corruption, it doesn't download viruses onto your computer. There's nothing scary about the BSoD.

The worst thing that I've had happen with a Mod, is the graphics driver failed during startup. You know what I did to fix that? Nothing, because within 5 seconds Windows automatically restored the driver and closed the program. Nothing was damaged at all.

I don't know why people are so paranoid about Mods, though. Except maybe efx.... I still have some of that thing's files floating around on my computer. But even so, they're just files. If you don't like them, delete them. End of story.

It's because of ignorance. Ignorance isn't always bliss. It can even be fear, especially needless fear. I used to think I would get a virus if I connected to the internet for too long

Oh yeah? Due to switching over to Comcast, we started using IE7 or 8 (can't remember which one) and it works just fine.

IE is really does suck.

When applications say that they need IE to run (ie the TGC store) I use the app without installing IE. That's how much it sucks.

EHHHH! Wrong, it'll cause problems later, little add-ons that amount to spyware and IE is a lot easier to hack than Firefox apparently. Firefox has more features, less virus things and no bull poo.

I do download 3rd party models, Bloodeath. Once my own PC comes in at the beginning of June, then I can e-mail and download other stuff, since this is the family's computer.
