Go with the cheesy sub-games. Revolving 3D skulls when 10 year old kids got their first password rejected (but no others) was always cool (see avatar), if totally unrealistic. And lots of 3D mucking around of screens would be great. Such as have the console "window" spin off when you do a remote login to be replaced by a window that zooms in from the horizon, and then the other way around when you exit. Corny true. But good 80's and 90's hacker rubbish. Plus have lots of virus/worm type efforts. Such as when you construct your virus in stages, have it display revolving 3D shapes that start to fit together (Swordfish was like this with cubey thing starting to fit together as he typed like a ninja. And then it fell apart when he failed). Totally rubbish, but cool. And a 3D world of skyscraper type thingies that actually represent directories (more files in them the higher it is), and when accessing a file it zooms in on the relevant building (folder) and goes to the appropriate floor. This would be a corner window or something. The cheesyness level knows no bounds!!!! But remember, lots of 3D to represent easy to understand 2D concepts. No point showing a list of user names when you can have some 3D head display or somesuch. Nice.
Cheers
And don't forget, thanks to the amazing "Hackers" movie - coff - we all know the only passwords are "GOD", "SEX", or someother word I can't remember!!!
I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing
