I was thinking of buying it, but will the examples work with Darkbasic Pro?

From what I've read it sounds like a great book.

If I know my stuff, this question has come a couple times, and I think it is compatible with dbp.I'm not 100% sure, maybe 70%, and if not you'll have a little extra work. But it would make sense to have it compatible with dbp, as this book is new, and there are almost more dbp users than db users in my opionion, so why wouldn't they be.

Hopefully someone else can post to verify.

Actually, I own the book and it says that it seems to work best for db pro.

Current Projects: Game Spawn 85%, mini BSP maker 50%, Height Mapper with many features 75%, Space Tactical (Like BC300AD) 15%.

yikes,
I heard that it is full of mostly basic/starting theory.
None of the fancier commands like memblocks or vectors are explained...

If they are, let me know and I will definately buy it...

Although I think that memblocks could be very difficult to understand to begin with, it may not fit in a book... But basic theory would be nice...

3d vectors may be a bit more easier since it does not relly on memory positions... But I think that it is mainly for easy level DBPRo programming...

Yes its definatley aimed at the beginner.

I`d say its the manual that should have been packaged with DBPro, information wise...

There is information on memblocks. Im finding the book very informative . The examples are well explained and at the end there is multiplayer car game code mwhich utilises all the different aspects of DB. It is essentially a blown up version of the manual ,expensive but worth it(for me anyway)

I agree. However I haven't completed the book, I learnt enough to go off and tackle problems I previously thought were too advanced.

I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.

I got the book as a gift for someone who's totally new to programming, and I kinda skimmed it before wrapping, so my impressions are just that -- impressions.

That said, it seems like a) the book could get a complete beginner pretty much up to speed with the essential concepts of BASIC, DB or DBPro flavor, and b) the authors spend hundreds of pages covering those basics with extreme verbosity, then notice the book's already three inches thick and say "Oh yeah, you can also do some stuff in 3D... see the command descriptions that come with Dark Basic for more on this."

It would have been better to describe variables, looping, arrays, etc., more briefly then give that same level of attention to individual 3D commands, IMHO.
