This is my first real model. I mean I've messed around on anim8or before, but this is my first that I actually tried on. I have no idea how to animate or any of that and I'm not even sure if you can get animations from anim8or into fpsc, but eh lemme know what you think.

The gun isnt based off any particular gun, I just took a couple concepts of a few different ones and kinda combined them into this. I know the texture isnt anything to drool over, but I'm still getting the hang of it. Any tips?

For a first gun, it's pretty nice. Keep working hard and try basing it off of some reference images. Good job.

I like the scoped version more. I suggest you don't use cylinders for the stock on the end, and maybe make it solid like an M4A1.

I would also make the handle more round. And the front sight looks a bit awkward, maybe its just me. But still, I am harsh on everyone so it is really good for a first model.

Looks nice, try and get some good texture work going.

Yeah I like the scoped version also, but I was just messing around. The front sight I threw together in like 30 seconds, I plan on changing it. I'll mess around with the stock, and post some pics in a lil bit. Thanx

Well I got a rough collapsible stock thrown together. Looks a lot better than the first one I think

That stock is much better. It actually looks a little small compared to the gun though.

The gun right now looks like a semi-auto or automatic sniper rifle except for the fact that the barrel is the size of an M4A1's. Try making it more narrow and longer, it is coming together good.

Okay I made the stock bigger and changed the shape slightly, and increased the length of the barrel.. I also added dragunov/ak style sights to it for a little more detail.

EDIT - and it has 1660 polys, I really have no idea whats good an bad for poly count.. Just sorta messing around getting the feel of things

1660 is great for FPSC or any other engine. A more up to date engine (like Leadwerks) can have 500,000+ polys drawn at once before the frame rate drops. For FPSC you will want around 5000 polys in the gun+hands. In Leadwerks or something, you would want 10,000 in them.

I think the barrel needs to be more narrow still. And the stock is still a little small.

Lookin nice.

Looking good, is that going to be the final texture?

That is looking great now. It actually looks like a modded M16 rifle.

I can't see anything else that needs to be changed. I'd work on the texture now. Maybe a variation could have a bi-pod towards the start of the barrel.

Ha Black its funny you said that because I started on a bipod last night, and havent finished it yet. I have work today so I'll try to get it up later tonight.

@ castek - no that is just a temporary texture for now.

Okay well I got the bipod done. It isnt too detailed but I've got the basics down. I added some tension springs on the sides for a little more detail. Heres's some screens..

Heres an idea of what it might look like in game..

@ twitch tweak: If you get the hang of weapon creating and animation, then you could have custom ones for Nuclear Sky. The first piocs remind me of a G3 with a retractable stock.

Well I was going for a g3 look, but I also wanted to throw in some dragunov varients hence the longer barrel and ak sights. Once I get some better modeling skills I'm hoping to create some custom weapons for NS. I'm not too sure if I'll get the hang of animation any time soon, so if anyone wants to animate them feel free to let me know.

I tried the Leadwerks SDK thing, and it ran that giant 3dws industry complex with no lag at all. It even used a few special effects (Glowing Lights). Try putting that level in fpsc, and the loading would take a long time indeed, and the frame rate would be about 1. Unplayable.

Added some scope flip-covers, and now I'm working on the texture. Starting to get the hang of it, but still not exactally what I'm looking for..

Really good. Great. Fantastic!

Not only have you made a GREAT model, you've designed a weapon (with aid from your critics) using your imagination, which is something many modellers don't have.

Thanks for the compliments guys

Miposter - Thanx, I'm aiming to create some semi-futuristic weapons, such as weapons that would be appearing within the next 20 years or so. So still kinda modern technology but with some newer twists

Ocho - That would be really cool, but like I said I'm really iffy about animating, so its gonna be awhile unless someone feels like animating it.

I can animate for you, but it would have to be in a milkshape format. You could convert it to a 3Ds, then I could convert it to an MS3D. Looking good, BTW.
